I seem to recall in a thread that Louise said she lives in Virginia, as do I. Let me just note that most of us in the Old Dominion have all our lights on.
Louise, darlin', bless your heart, have the county check the water supply where you live.

I live in Maryland so I can vouch for the sanity in Virginia as well.
As great as Maureen Moore is, the producers, etc. are going to do everything possible to make sure that the star of the show is performing the very last show.

From: Ohio | posted: 5/24/2004 at 6:51:18 PM ET Geesh guys relax. The suggestion is sweet-not crazy. HAHA! I swear sometimes we get a little overprotective of Bernie--I mean Bernadette...don't jump my back about that! LOL Just kidding!
About the mishaps and the coughing...hey welcome to the BEAUTY of LIVE THEATRE. There are living and breathing people running the whole process...something is BOUND to happen. I agree with Bliss, though I don't personally know Bernadette--from the live performances I've seen her in she gets very emotional and chokes up--but my GOD it's SUPERB character and acting!! To me that's the beauty of her acting and the ENTIRE cast of this show...they meet one of the main goals of musical theatre...the songs seamlessly flow from the emotions or the story and from the dialogue. It's literally like the dialogue is continuing with the songs. It's not like HELLO HERE'S IS DIALOGUE and now LET ME SING A BEAUTIFUL SONG like we so often see. This is something that all of us singers/actors strive to do and to see on the stage. Bernadette is fine with her voice. She sounded in SUCH good shape when I heard her not long ago in the role...if she were having major problems or would be in danger of losing her voice you would have heard those affects quite a while ago. She is also still working with Adriene Angel who is a FABULOUS voice teacher! Relax...and lets just enjoy the rest of the ride!
Ciao-

okay, a little over dramatic, but I wish more people would realize what acting is really supposed to be.

Registered: 8/14/2003 | posted: 5/24/2004 at 8:37:27 PM ET Ok may I never start another thread ever again. I was simply curious about a possible problem with the curtain which:
1) quickly turned into concerns about her voice (thank you Bliss for clearing it up!)...I was honestly talking about the CURTAIN!
2)... followed by a very random interest in throwing Maureen Moore into the final show (WTF?)
3)...and ending with people questioning the sanity of those from the state of Virginia (I can vouch for some, but not all.)
It's amazing how one little post can change over time...I feel like we are playing the telephone game back in girl scouts and by the end the final message is completely unrelated to the original message!
Sorry, just had to vent.
Oh, and by the way, if any of you have children, and live on the east coast with these ****ing cicadas...PLEASE do not let you children bring their teacher a bag full of them as a gift....it really isn't appreciated
**Less than 48 hours till I meet Bernadette and see the show for the last time

Registered: 6/11/2002 | posted: 5/24/2004 at 9:29:10 PM ET Oh geez Louise! (No pun intended) Let me just say that my post did did NOT come across the way I wanted it to.
I, like every single last one of Bernadette's fans, cares very much for her. I care SO much for her that I want her last show to be the best that it could possible be, and when I read the post in All that Chat and previous posts, I got concerned. The validity of these comments are always, however, up for speculation and unfortunately, I let them make me nervous about her current condition.
I sincerely hope this doesn't create any hostile feelings towards me by any of you.

Registered: 8/14/2003 | posted: 5/24/2004 at 9:39:04 PM ET I don't have a problem with anyone on this board. In fact, since joining, I've had nothing but good experiences with the posters. I just didn't want people to associate the wacky twists and turns of this thread with me...I think this just happened to be one of those threads that started out one way and ended up another...No big deal (at least from my viewpoint.)
Oh, nice quote from an article I just read on yahoo:
"Sunday marks the final performance for "Gypsy" at the Shubert after 33 prevues and 450 performances, with Bernadette Peters showing her stripes and professionalism by growing so enormously during the past year's run in the ultrademanding role that Ethel Merman made famous; it's now a role that Peters at least co-owns, one that she's put her own indelible multilayered stamp on and a new yardstick for all future Mama Roses."

From: Toronto | posted: 5/25/2004 at 12:52:07 AM ET wow.........I just got back from seeing THE LAST FIVE YEARS here in Toronto (which was amazing!!!), and I thought I would check out this site! This thread in insane!
I don't really have much to add because all the regulars have pretty much summed it up, but I just want to say that it's getting a bit frustrating to have people posting fake, insulting and mocking messages on this board. I feel like we are being made fun of and I don't appreciate it.......
In regards to Bernadette: A friend of my parents saw the show last week and was floored by the entire production. She works for a hotel and she is in charge of organizing activities for large groups and company trips. I talked about this show so much that she finally went to see it and now she wishes it would stay open longer so she could take all her clients to it. She couldn't stop talking about Bernadette, and how incredible she was, so I don't think anyone has anything to worry about for next Sunday! I am sending nothing but good vibes her way.
You either got it, or you aint!

From: Bradenton/Sarasota, FLA | posted: 5/25/2004 at 8:48:26 AM ET I do, hereby, formally apologize to the board for my post of yesterday. It was mean. And I apologize. (I had such guilt all evening.)
Catching up on reading threads from the weekend, and reading this one, I thought "Louise" must be one of those jokesters, then thought 'please, tell me this person did not actually call the box office and ask if Maureen could jump in for just one song in the last performance' (you know if she did, the "nice man" was just humoring her).
Anyway, many of the posters here live in the NYC area, and I didn't like that this person sounded the Southern rube who just wasn't getting it. I usually think before writing, but did not this time. That'll l'arn me.
Sorry to all. I'll go away now.

Registered: 5/3/2002 | posted: 5/25/2004 at 9:06:31 AM ET I go by the principle that no matter what you say, you're not being insulting if you're speaking to a fictional character, since by definition they don't really exist. I'm sure "Louise" (and her creator) relish whatever we say, the meaner the better, as long as it keeps the game going.

From: Bradenton/Sarasota, FLA | posted: 5/25/2004 at 10:12:12 AM ET "Louise," you are either dumb as a post or sly as a fox. My guilt feelings were if you were the former; if the latter, I'm sorry I wasted a couple of good lines on you (but I'm not sorry if I gave anyone a good laugh).
Enough already. Bernadette, for those who know her when they see her (oh, god, sorry, geez, I can't help myself), is giving the last week of performances in a great role. Let us now focus our energies on that.
I love this quote and hope that the future proves its truth:
"...it's now a role that Peters at least co-owns, one that she's put her own indelible multilayered stamp on and a new yardstick for all future Mama Roses."

From: Maryland | posted: 5/25/2004 at 11:21:03 AM ET The co-ownership is between Ms. Peters and the original Mama Rose, Ethel Merman.
So did we ever learn what happened with the curtain?
