From: Boston | posted: 5/25/2004 at 7:49:23 PM ET so I was driving around in my convertible today, ok it's my mom's, but today it wasn't, and those cicadas are SO loud and irritating and I had to put the top of the car back up because they were flying into the car and into my face!! I know where I'll be in 17 years...not here!!

| posted: 5/25/2004 at 7:54:08 PM ET HAHAHA LMAO okay, I'm becoming a little concerned by myself and others. I know I am lacking in sleep...don't know about the rest of you. My family thinks I am strange because I am laughing at the computer right now.
I can now picture Maureen and Bernadette doing the Hot Honey Rag from Chicago.
I hate those damn bugs. I'm surprised the top of the convertable was even down.
We haven't really gotten them where I am, and yet I live in NY. Odd.

*Continuing to see how off topic we can actually get!

From: Bradenton/Sarasota, FLA | posted: 5/25/2004 at 8:39:30 PM ET Yikes. I hadn't thought about driving through the cicadas this weekend to get to NYC. I'm from Florida where we had to drive through lovebugs every fall. Not fun. I guess the top will be up on my convertible this weekend (it is my convertible; just made the last payment and got the title last Friday. Hoo-ray.).
I drove to Wolftrap near DC last Saturday night with the top down and heard this LOUD din in the trees. First, I thought those must be some damn big crickets. I half expected the Swamp Thing to come out of the trees (actually, it sounds a lot like Florida in the summer). The top went up once I got to Wolftrap; definitely, did not want those bugs riding with me.
Hope I find a good car wash in Jersey.
And just what was the topic??

Is anyone else watching American Idol? I never really do, except for the last 2 shows of each season.
Diana is good, but much too young. She lacks in a stage-presence.
Fantasia is also good, but she reminds me of Nell Carter (voice-wise). Not that Nell had a bad voice, but she was a presence all her own.
They should really do a Broadway version of AI...and Bernadette could be a judge!
I know they did something like that last year, but I'm talking about a televised season long show. I bet Bravo could pick it up.
I think the Cicadas sound pretty. Like if you're sitting outside at night in the summer, there's just something very calming and nice about it. It's when ya get hit in the head that they become irritating.

I like the sound too, but the cicadas are quite loud. Reminds me of home and a Mad magazine cartoon from my youth; the final frame showed crickets twice as big as the house. Which is why they were loud. Get it?

But it's turning out okay after all. We have Mad magazine, car wrecks, and an onstage menage-a-trois happening. That's cool.

I think I have been somewhat "triple dog-dared" to ask Louise if Bernadette (or Maureen for that matter) might want to take on the role of Glinda when Kristin Chenoweth leaves in July? That would give Bernadette/Maureen a good month to recouperate....How about THAT one for the rumor mill...
Oh, and Christine...yes, the "song" those bugs sing isn't too annoying...but when they fly into you hair because they have horrible vision...that's when all bets are off...I remember them from 17 years ago and I was only 11. SingOutAnnie...if I were you, I would put the top up as soon as you hit MD.
I think Jean had the right idea...leave Maryland for 6 weeks. By the time she gets back...they should all be dead.

Well, I guess it might get a little crowded but --hey -- they were all so good and so cute that they should have another appearance. Maybe I'll mention it to the theatre manager tomorrow when I'm at the matinee.

From: New York, NY | posted: 5/26/2004 at 12:19:18 AM ET I do think that Bernadette Peters (Maureen Moore's understudy ...wait..) would be fabulous as Glinda in WICKED. I think that she and Kristen do look the same age. Not to be rude to Kristen (who is twenty years younger) but I think they both meet in the middle. Bernadette would be HILARIOUS and her voice would be adorable singing POPULAR. However, I want Ms. Peters to take a break and enjoy her summer!! Maybe she could meet Jean in Belguim?
