I bought the Sunday In The Park With George DVD a few days ago and I just wanted to say that I love it!

I was bawling when she sang "We Do not Belong Together" and "Move On" and it is so interesting to listen to the audio commentary from Bernadette, Mandy Patinkin, Stephen Sondheim, and James Lapine!

Does anyone have anything to say about this particular Bernadette movie?

I think it is amazing that they taped this production and put it out there for us to see. It is one of Bernadette Peters' most defining moments as a performer. She does everything right. It is one of the most moving performances she has done, and I love it to death. Not to mention the rest of the cast, especially, of course, Mandy Patinkin! Also, NANCY OPEL is in the supporting cast... how can you go wrong?

Okay, good. I'm not the only one. The first time I watched Sunday in the Park, I was bawling by the end. It just touched me so much.

Skibabi - I got my copy on Amazon. But the Borders near me did have a copy.

The commentary is wonderful. Bernadette is kind of quiet though.

i am absolutely in love with that show. i have the soundtrack and have rented the DVD more than once. it's so moving and Bernadette makes the production even better. She is so perfect. And I too, was bawling throughout so much of it.

SO AMAZING.

Count me as a big fan too. Beautifully written from start to finish. I love how certain musical and lyrical themes quietly reappear to tie together elements of characters that are a century apart. I can't imagine anyone else in the world ever doing justice to Bernadette's performances. Her portrayal of the grandmother is at once ingeniously funny and profoundly bittersweet at the same time.

Skibabi1 I bought my copy from Barnes and Noble.

It was disappointing that Bernadette didn't talk more in the commentary but I still enjoyed hearing about everyone's experiences and how the show was created.

Bernadette's grandmother was incredible and to see her go from Dot to Marie was amazing!

Glad to hear from other fans of the movie

I looooove Sunday in the Park with George, one of my fav Bernadette performances. So moving, and I too am a crier, lol.

The commentary is great too, I love that feature in a DVD. It really gives insight into what the performers were thinking, not to mention what Sondheim (whom I adore) was thinking when he wrote it. I love on the comentary when Bernadette is sitting at her vanity powdering her nose and then starts dancing and everyone doing the commentary starts to laugh at her. That part's so cute, she's like "it looks so funny without the sound" lol I love it!

On the 'Inside the Actors Studio' interview that ran this morning, Bernadette talked about the layers upon layers of Sondheim's score.
That's part of the thrill of that DVD and the 'Into the Woods' DVD -- the show and performances are wonderful, but instead of getting old with each viewing, they just seem to grow and build more depth of understanding.

I had the 'Sunday' CD on my desk at work a few weeks ago. Someone asked me, 'Is it good?'
"No." I said. "It's brilliant."

Does anyone know where you can rent the Sunday in the Park DVD? My local video store doesn't have it, does anyone know of a big chain or something that might carry it?

Don't forget that many public libraries will have it, and best of all they're free!

I loved "Sunday in the Park" - I wish I had seen it live, but at least with the DVD I can watch it as much as I want for a low, low price! It also peaked my interest in Seurat. I'm hoping to make it to Chicago before the end of September to visit the special exhibit of the making of La Grand Jatte (http://www.artic.edu/aic/exhibitions/seurat/seurat.html). Recently there was a story on NPR about it and they even talked about the musical and interviewed Sondheim. It's fascinating.

I was talking to my sister-in-law at Christmas, telling her about my trips to NYC last year, and how I'd become this huge fan of Bernadette Peters. She started telling me how she'd seen 'Sunday' on the stage, and I could feel myself becoming physically green with jealousy listening to her. I so wish I'd seen it live too!!

You can see Seurat's "final draft" painting for La Grande Jatte at the Metropolitan there in New York. I was thrilled to see it and bought a print of it while there in February. It's on my office wall, and a reminder to "Move On." Probably as close as I'll come to the painting...

Thanks SingOutAnnie! I go to the Met often but its such a maza I guess I missed it. Now I will go with a purpose in mind! What a great message to yourself re the painting reminding you to "Move On". I love it.

Now I'm jealous of your sister-in-law too. My secretary also just told me that she saw Bernadette in "Into the Woods" live. Not fair!
