From: NYC | posted: 7/21/2004 at 10:50:00 AM ET Thanks SingOutAnnie! I go to the Met often but its such a maza I guess I missed it. Now I will go with a purpose in mind! What a great message to yourself re the painting reminding you to "Move On". I love it.
Now I'm jealous of your sister-in-law too. My secretary also just told me that she saw Bernadette in "Into the Woods" live. Not fair!

I remember it was next to a doorway, either alone or with one other painting between the doorway and the wall. I was looking for Rembrandts and Impressionists, and was so surprised to find Marie and the Boatman, etc., there. The Web site photo is B&W, but the painting or "sketch" is color. Enjoy!!

From: Bradenton/Sarasota, FLA | posted: 7/21/2004 at 2:59:27 PM ET I hope this doesn't sound too weird, but...
I am fascinated by a note that Bernadette sings in the opening song, "Sunday in the Park with George." About 2/3s through it, when she sings "All it has to be is good,
And George, you're good, you're really good.
George's stroke is tender..."
The way she sings "be" and, lesser so, "ten-" is so deep, a tremble in the chest. I don't really know what it is. But I wait for it in the song. And it's thrilling. It's really stronger in the DVD, more so than on the CD. It's weird, I know, but that phrasing in there just intrigues me.

From: Atlanta | posted: 7/21/2004 at 8:22:51 PM ET Hi! I am a recent joiner, and I have to say that I absolutely agree about that moment in Sunday. That was actually kind of my gateway Bernadette/Sondheim musical. Another moment I love on the CD (but doesn't really have the same resonance on the DVD) is in Move on when she sings "let others make that decision." I don't know why, that live gets me every time.
Make the most of the music that is yours...

So I bought the CD last month, listened to it through a six-hour drive to DC. Two days ago I ordered a special edition of Sunday in the Park with George on ebay (DVD)... I am addicted to it!!

From: Ohio | posted: 7/22/2004 at 10:44:04 PM ET Since we're sharing great Bernadette moments in Sunday in the Park With George I must agree with the previous observations and add my own.
I ABSOLUTELY love EVERYBODY LOVES LOUIS...especially when she said "And there are Louies and there are Georges...well Louies and George...." I love that part....
and how about some of the BEST acting during the "Yes George run to work...hide behind your painting" part...OMG!!! When she puts her hand on her face trying to hold back the tears--whew. It reminds me so much of her unbelievable performance in Gypsy! That power.
"Take off your jacket!"--Joan Rivers to Bernadette
"TAKE OFF YOUR DRESS!!"--Bernadette's reply.

From: Bradenton/Sarasota, FLA | posted: 7/23/2004 at 8:50:50 AM ET Oh, yes, yes, I know that part, her face...then when she sings "you could tell me not go" which that scene has been building up to. I'm just gooseflesh all over and the eyes are welling.
Another wonder in 'Sunday': in "Move On" at the end, there are a couple of closeups of Bernadette looking sideways at George and then she smiles, smiles like a goddess....ohmigod. Everyone should have someone look at them with such love at least once in their life.
Well, I know what DVD I'll be watching tonight...

From: London | posted: 7/25/2004 at 7:54:34 AM ET Moments I love in SITPWG in no particular order-
- when she drops the cream puff on the floor disdainfully after "everybody loves louis"
- "george's touch is pure". The "george" bit on the CD is amazing. I don't know if it's because it catches an echo but its just so beautifully full.
- the way she looks at george when shes singing about his eyes and beard and stuff. just wonderful - i rewind to look at her again.
- when she enters george's studio when she is preganant and runs her hand across the work top while the music plays. HEARTBREAKING!!
they say bernadette's wonderful..........and she is

She is pure perfection in every bit of it all. She is such a genius in every aspect of portraying the character, Dot and Marie. I think it may just be her best work just because, although she does this in every one of her projects, she is consistently perfect in every subtle movement and tone of voice. I love this show so much! I wish i could have been able to see it done live.
