Here's a related question, tho not a trivia one. What's the difference between a standby (Ms. Moore for Ms. Peters) and and an understudy? Wait...I think I just figured it out. Understudies are in the show in other parts; standbys are not.
Right?

Another injustice with Maureen's part in the Angela Landsbury Gypsy is that Maureen is not the Dainty June you hear on the cast recording. I'm not completely clear why she was not but I know she came into Gypsy very late and was replacing the originally cast actress. Too bad we don't have a recording or a headshot of her as Dainty June.

Registered: 3/10/2001 | posted: 8/23/2003 at 1:44:32 PM ET I'm hoping to see Maureen in Gypsy eventually! I've heard she is a great and really makes the role her own.
Its pretty impressive that she hadn't even had a single rehearsal before the first time she went on for Bernadette. She didn't even have her own wardrobe yet so she had to wear Bernadette's costumes.
I know that her personal dicision as a standby was to not pick up any of Bernadette's trademarks as Rose so she goes to the theatre a couple of times a week so she doesn't continually hear Bernadette's Rose. I know many standbys for different shows do choose to be at the theatre everynight though and are actually obligated to be there.

From Internet Network: 134.126.30.x | posted: 8/23/2003 at 3:30:56 PM ET Sorry for asking an old question re: Maureen Moore.
HOwEVER, that leads me to another question re: another recent discussion: What does Ms. Peters do after "Gypsy"?
What's the opinion on Mame?
(following the Angela Lansbury train of thought here. It's not been on Broadway in some years, has it?)
Also -- tho I'm loathe to mention it -- did anyone else catch on ATC someone trying to start/feed rumor of Peters' trying to shorten her contract, take a month's rest for her voice, etc.? Humph. I can't pay much attention to anyone who'd call her "Bernie" anyway. Sheeesh.
Uhoh. this is supposed to be a quiz thread. sorry again....

Registered: 3/10/2001 | posted: 8/23/2003 at 3:44:43 PM ET All, I have to say about the rumor on ATC is that, true or not you shoulnd't believe anything like this until an official announcement is made. And I find it to be pretty unprofesional and rude for someone to post that when clearly, Bernadette does not want this sort of info. to be publicly known yet, whether its true or not.( I'm not referring to you though )
Look what happened when several online sources were mistaken about this production of Gypsy opening in London first....

From Internet Network: 24.154.80.x | posted: 8/23/2003 at 5:47:21 PM ET This may have already been mentioned, but the reason Maureen isn't heard on the recording is that she was in the Broadway production, which was not recorded. The London version of Angela's Rose is on record.

I'm glad you added that you didn't think that I was being rude!
I'd hoped I was clear that I didn't believe it, nor did I wish to add to the rumor mill.
I just don't get people like that who would want to hurt a show, even if they didn't like it or a performer.
"As the good Lord says" to each his/her own taste...and pass the eggrolls.
There's plenty of theater variety for every taste. The important thing is keep live theater alive....

And I was just going to answer, 'The Last Best Year,' but someone beat me to it. Argh! This is what I get for being in the city all day.
How about another trivia question?
Maureen Moore has been Bernadette's standby for more than one Broadway production. Name the other one.
***************
Regis: And look at all this hair. My God. That's a lot of hair. Look at this. How does hair get this way?
Bernadette: Um.. it sort of grew out of my head like this.
