With the Theatre Chat Troll living there, shouldn't that read "Houston, you have a problem"?

From: Edinburgh, Scotland | posted: 7/3/2008 at 1:26:55 PM ET Came across this in a recent blog about the current Broadway production of GYPSY and it made me wonder ..."At the end of the fire speech, the announcer said, "Patti LuPone has hurt her foot"-- there's a general exhalation as he pauses-- "and will be wearing isotoners tonight."
Did the injury occur when she put her foot in her mouth after receiving the Tony Award?
And can the audience really be assured that isotoners will prevent her from doing so again?

Registered: 5/3/2002 | posted: 7/5/2008 at 11:43:17 PM ET So I've heard, but really now, come ON! It doesn't follow that she has to have this incredibly self-serving teaser of an announcement made every night just so she can feed her ego with the sound of the audience's initial groans and sighs of disappointment (until they hear the "punchline"). A simple notice in the playbill that she has a foot injury and will be wearing slippers would suffice. This is really crossing over the line into a probably unique example of diva self-indulgence--I've certainly never heard of the like.
Christine, I'm afraid we're going to have to respectfully agree to disagree. East(LuPone love)is east and west(LuPone dislike)is west and never the twain shall meet.

From: Edinburgh, Scotland | posted: 7/6/2008 at 7:38:19 AM ET Maybe the announcement is also supposed to send out a subliminal message about how professional she is by not missing the performance despite being injured.
I heard a rumour that the audience will soon be getting pictures of the toe X-ray with their Playbill.
