From: northern VA | posted: 12/29/2004 at 1:58:21 PM ET The article said his treatment started not too long ago. I wonder how far it had spread before he started treatment-prostate cancer has "good" survival statistics as far as cancers go.
It's very sad-no matter how high the statistics are, there's no 100% survival rate for any cancer. And it depends on how early it is caught in many cases. The doctors told us that my grandfather's cancer was treatable, but it spread very quickly and he died. Of course,he was a few years older than Jerry Orbach-he was 75. But sometimes the body just can't handle the cancer and the treatment. Since your immune system is compromised, simple illnesses can kill you. It's just so much.
This is from the American Cancer Society:
"About 86% of all prostate cancers are found in the local and regional stages (local means it is still confined to the prostate; regional means it has spread from the prostate to nearby areas, but not to distant sites such as other organs). The 5-year relative survival rate for all of these men is nearly 100%.
Of the men whose prostate cancers have already spread to distant parts of the body at the time of diagnosis, 34% will survive at least 5 years."
Praying for all affected by cancer...
What a career and life he had! That's something to celebrate. You know what? I don't have The Fantasticks recording. I may need to stop at B&N after work. Even though I never saw his stage work first hand,I always could tell that he loved the Broadway community. I recently saw the Lost Treasures DVD,and loved seeing "Lullaby of Broadway." You never really know celebrities,of course, but he had a charismatic and friendly personality.

A great talent and always seemed a nice man, a gentleman, to boot. I'll miss him.

From: PA | posted: 1/14/2005 at 9:29:40 PM ET It is sad to know that the man who created the role of Billy Flin is no longer with us.
He was great in Law & Order.
We're going to miss you Jerry Orbach.
