Registered: 5/3/2002 | posted: 1/10/2005 at 9:27:13 PM ET There's a Bernadette connection to Coleman in that she's one of many who auditioned unsuccessfully for "Seesaw." Here's her story from a 1974 interview in After Dark:
"I didn't want to audition for Seesaw because I didn't think I was right for it. So one of the producers called up and I said, "No, no, I'm really not interested." Later he called back and said, "We have a new script now. Do you want to come in and audition for it?"
"So I said all right, and he said just to learn some of the songs. I went in and met Cy Coleman and, meanwhile the director isn't there yet.....Then I came in again and sang a few numbers and read for him [the original director] and right away I knew that I didn't get the part because he kept saying things like, "You're REALLY talented! Gee, you're REEAAALLY talented!" and I thought "Oh, okay. Sure."
