From: NYC | posted: 12/1/2004 at 4:26:26 PM ET I just got back from a GREAT trip to London. On Monday night, we saw Nathan Lane in "The Producers". He was HYSTERICAL. Lee Evans was so funny too. His comedy was very physical with lots of face contortions. Lee and Nathan's chemistry was good. Was Matthew Broderick's interpretation very physical? I've heard such good things about the Nathan/Matthew production. Anyway, our seats were on the front row! Good grief - when I purchased I had no clue. It was fantastic being so close. At one point after the audience stopped clapping for something, Nathan looked at his watch and said "Is that all you have for me" which of course started the laughing and clapping all over again. We did have to buy the "playbill" which was 3 pounds (practically 6 dollars) (thanks for the warning Chip)...and during intermission (interval) the ushers sold ice cream - we really thought that was funny - practically the entire orchestra lined for it (also 3 pounds). Anyway, I'm very glad we saw it - it really topped off a fabulous trip.
PS - nobody ever bought my ticket to "The Foreigner" and then PAFan couldn't use hers so I used both for my Mom and me to see it - pretty good but best was just seeing Matthew Broderick.

I'm in the second row, so I hope I'll have an equally fantastic time. Did Nathan seem tired at all? I would not have the energy to do that. Mel Brooks has a lot to thank him for.

Barcelona - so glad you're going to see The Producers. Nathan didn't seem tired to me - he was really energetic and really, really funny. It is quite a large theatre.

Registered: 7/27/2004 | posted: 12/29/2004 at 6:10:59 PM ET Off to London in the morning! So excited! I've been to America quite a bit, but never the short hop across to the UK. But alas, Nathan has pulled out! I'm so disappointed. My timing is always SO bad.

The Producers was absolutely hilarious. Still disappointed about Nathan being out, I wasn't really sure what to expect from his understudy, Corey English. At first he didn't seem to be getting all the laughs, but after a little while he really looked comfortable in the role, and he won me over. But I still wanted to see Nathan. Argh! The rest of the cast were also fabulous, especially Conleth Hill who played Roger DeBris. Lee Evans didn't disappoint either, although his physical comedy was a bit broad. I also got ice-cream at intermission (3 pounds for a tiny tub of sticky toffee!), and the price was even referenced in the show!
Other shows I saw were Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, and an Irish play called By The Bog of Cats, starring Holly Hunter. Both were great (although Holly's Irish accent was a tad shaky), but neither could match The Producers.
Overall, amazing!
