(moljul, don't apologize; I've posted but then deleted a million times, I just can't seem to get my thoughts in order. Nothing seems to be making much sense right now,but this is the one place we can all come to right now for support.)

Since the week before the Norfolk concert, and in the days since, I have been on a virtual Bernadette marathon. I've been through nearly the entire catalog of CDs a few times, playing that music every chance I had. But last night it was just too sad. The Norfolk concert was just barely over a week ago, and it was such a glowing, uplifting performance, as if it reminded me all over again about why I love music so much and what a great performer can really be. That concert had an afterglow that I could still feel all over me, a really wonderful feeling.
The complete turn around of emotion is pretty hard to describe. It is going to be a while before I can hear some of those songs again and not think about the anguish that Bernadette must be experiencing. I know we are just a bunch of devoted fans, but that music really means alot to us, and we have all come to really appreciate where that muse comes from. I truly hope that someday that music will give her the courage and glow again that it has given me so many times.

I have been thinking, remembering Norfolk of only a weekend ago, how powerful are the lyrics of the songs she selects and how poignant many will be to listen to now.
But also how difficult some may be for her to sing. I hope, rather, having seen how much of her own emotions she shares and pours into a lyric when she sings, that she too will find comfort and insight when she is able to move on.
And won't that song have a powerful new message for her. I hope it brings strength.

| posted: 9/28/2005 at 2:52:30 PM ET This is so awful. I'll still in shock. I'll never forget the first time I watched Bernadette on Inside The Actor's Studio. As much as I loved the interview and the songs the thing that really stood out for me was the wonderful look on Michael's face when he was watching her. You could just tell how much he loved her and how proud he was of her.

| posted: 9/28/2005 at 2:58:19 PM ET Ah yes, Rose. You just brought a smile to my face. Especially when she went over her favorite curse words. She said that sometimes when she was really angry she did say FK. And then she looked at Michael like, "Did I actually just say that out loud?" and he was just laughing hysterically.

From: Long Island, NY | posted: 9/28/2005 at 3:50:05 PM ET It has been a really long time since I posted here. Not being home yesterday at all, I didn't hear until this morning when a friend called (she assumed I already knew). I was so shocked and saddened to hear this terrible news. My heart goes out to Bernadette, and my thoughts and prayers are with her and her family at this most difficult time.
Mandy - I am certainly interested in contributing. I will e-mail you ASAP since I don't have the PM thing on my profile. By the way...if anyone knows how I can change that, any help would be greatly appreciated.

I didnt catch Regis and Kelly this morning becasue I was at school. So I'm just curious: what did they say about it. Also I've never heard the real story about how Bernadette and Michael met, only the Regis version. Can someone tell me?
Its weird because I dont feel like this is actually happening. I feel like I'm dreaming or something. I really wish it were just a dream.

Bernadette was standing outside of her apartment building, dressed formally, waiting for a date who was late picking her up. Michael lived in a brownstone around the corner, was also going to a formal event and came around to her street to wait for a car to pick him up. He was dressed in a tux. He saw her standing there and realized whomever was supposed to pick her up was late. So he walked up, offered his arm and said, "Are you ready to go?" which made Bernadette laugh and she had stated she actually felt like she should go with him.
They chit chatted a bit while waiting for their cars and she noticed a button had fallen off his shirt. "Being a smart aleck", she said "I'd sew it back on for you if only I had a needle and thread". Michael said, "Would you really?" She said, "Well yeah, I guess" so he ran across the street to a tailor and quickly bought a needle and thread and came back for her to make good on her promise, which she did. Eventually Michael's friends came to pick him up and she eventually went on to her affair. Some time during the night the button fell off so when he got home he put the button in an envelope with his phone number and gave it to her doorman. The note said something about asking her to sew the button back on again. She eventually called him and when he asked her out she explained that she was just starting another relationship. They proceeded to see each other in the neighborhood throughout the next 2 and half years. Then one day it was raining and they bumped into one another. Bernadette asked Michael if he was walking her way and offered him space under her umbrella. He said he was not and a car of friends arrived to pick him up. Later that night she came home to fine another note from Michael with a check inside of it a "Rain check" to get together at another time, complete with him name and number. The relationship she has started when they first met was coming to an end so when she felt she had finished up with that guy (come on, you made her wait a really long time, you deserved to be dumped) she called Michael and they set a date for when she would be back in town (she was leaving the next day. Approximately one year later they were married.

I am more than willing to coordinate any donations that people would like to make to Broadway Barks in memory of Michael.
Please make all checks payable to: Mayor's Alliance/Broadway Barks and include in the memo that it is "In Memory of Michael Wittenberg."
Please PM me if you would like to donate and then I can send you my contact information. If you would rather, you can email me at azeller1@hotmail.com.
I will also be sending something to Standing Tall. I had no idea he worked with children with physical disabilities. As a professional who also works with children with disabilities, I feel the need honor his memory there as well. (This can be a group donation as well if anyone would prefer to do it that way. Just let me know.)
