From Internet Network: 12.38.182.x | posted: 9/27/2005 at 5:53:31 PM ET I a very big BP fan and have seen her in concert and on Broadway many many times. I don't post but every once in a while I check up on the latest news. Having been at many shows and concerts you get to know her people. You can tell that she adored Michael and he her. This is a very sad sad day. This sure isn't going to be easy for her or any of their family. I think now than ever we should send our thoughts and cards and let her know that she can go on.

Bernadette Peters' husband killed in helicopter crash
ASSOCIATED PRESS
Michael Wittenberg, husband of Broadway musical-theater star Bernadette Peters, died Monday in a helicopter crash in Montenegro. He was 43.
Wittenberg, an investment adviser, was on a business trip, Judy Katz, a spokeswoman for Peters, said Tuesday.
Three other people were killed in the crash, which occurred when the aircraft struck a high-voltage cable, police in Podgorica, Montenegro said.
Wittenberg married the Tony Award-winning actress in July 1996. They wed at the home of Mary Tyler Moore, a longtime friend of Peters.
Peters most recently appeared on Broadway in the 2003 revival of "Gypsy." Her other Broadway shows include "Sunday in the Park With George" and "Into the Woods." She won Tonys for her performances in "Song & Dance" and the 1999 revival of "Annie Get Your Gun."

So young and so tragic. And so unfortunate that they only had nine years of marriage and what a happy marriage it seemed to be.

| posted: 9/27/2005 at 6:26:42 PM ET leebee, That's what I've been thinking about too since reading about this.
I was remembering the joy in her voice and the smile on her face whenever she would talk about him.
Even whenever she would be co-hosting with Regis and he would reinvent the way she and Michael met, as she just looked on with pride.
The look in both of their eyes when they were in a room together.
Not that any of us knows what went on behind closed doors...away from the fans; but they really seemed happy together.
I was remembering this one time, my friend and I were sitting talking with Michael, and my friend was not feeling that great. He went out of his way to get her a bagel and juice and make sure she was feeling better.
It wasn't something he had to do. It was just such a kind gesture. That is how I will remember him.

Your post reminds me of the time I worked the Nothing Like A Dame event when Bernadette performed. Michael was backstage and when Bernadette was performing he had a huge smile on his face and was just beaming with pride. There were tons of people crowded in front of him watching Bernadette and waiting for the curtain call. He literally stood on a chair so he could see her perform over all the heads. Clearly, he wasn't going to miss a moment. And I was very fortunate to witness (though quite unintentionally) a very private, affectionate moment between them after the show when they were waiting in the line for the elevator up to the dressing rooms. Clearly what was displayed in public was genuine and in line with what took place "behind closed doors".
I think the world knew he was a very lucky man but what is becoming more obvious is that she too was a very lucky woman.
