Thanks Allie for the info about the distance from Boston to Symphony Hall. That really helps!

Registered: 8/14/2003 | posted: 9/16/2004 at 9:46:00 PM ET For anyone who still wants to get tickets I tried both calling directly and online. I found that online, the best seats are not the first ones offered to you. If, once you see the seats they are offering, you don't like them hit the back button and start the search again. I did this quite a few times and was shown row d in the balcony. After more searches, a front row center balcony seat popped up. The same thing happens with what is left of the orchestra seats (of which there are not many left.) Hope this helps. The people on the phone are really nice too though they were not offering the best seats at first either so I'm not sure what is going on. I ended up getting mine online but only after QUITE a few searches for a decent seat to pop up.

From: Maryland | posted: 9/16/2004 at 10:43:41 PM ET Interesting turn of events. Looked at tickets online and found better tickets online! So now I have two extra pairs of tickets that I will probably have to sell if I can't return them. If anyone's interested, PM me. They're row CC, but I'm willing to sell them for less than the $180 I paid for them. Just let me know.
Mandy, I would give yourself at least 30 minutes to get from the airport to Symphony Hall. Even though a taxi is faster, Boston has horrible traffic. You can also take the subway, which would probably take you a little bit more time, but not that much. If you plan on renting a car, definitely give yourself plenty of time.
I live on the same line as the one Symphony Hall is located on but I'll probably be leaving an hour early to get there. :-p
I'm happy now. I have 3rd row. Hehe.

From: NYC | posted: 9/17/2004 at 9:29:27 AM ET I occasionally go to Boston for work - word of wisdom - Boston cabs are EXPENSIVE, fortunately I always get reimbursed for it from my office. I'm sure there must be some sort of public transportation from Logan though.

From: Maryland | posted: 9/17/2004 at 2:14:54 PM ET Boston cabs are expensive. Plus you'll have a toll automatically included. And some drivers won't hesitate on "getting lost" to charge you more. You're probably looking at something that'll cost you $20-30.
To take the train - you want to follow the signs in Logan for ground transportation. There'll be little island for you to wait for buses. You want to get on the bus that says it goes to the subway. It should be the number 33, I believe (just flew last weekend so I know). But again, it'll specifically state on the side that it goes to the T. The shuttle service is free.
When you get to the T station, you want to follow the sign that says to GOVERNMENT CENTER. I think it's inbound, but as long as you go to the train that says goes to government center, you'll be on your way. It'll cost you a $1.25.
Once you get to government center, you want to find the area for the GREEN LINE. You want to go outbound. If you take the B, C, or D line, you want to get off at Hynes. You'll be on Mass ave, but farther away then you probably want to be.
The better option is to take the E line, which will take you to the Symphony stop, which should be closer. But there are a lot less E trains so you might have to wait longer.
You don't have to pay extra to switch lines.
And then basically, do it in reverse to go back, again, costing you $1.25.
Hope that helps.

Registered: 6/9/2003 | posted: 9/19/2004 at 2:07:46 AM ET Having lived in Boston for years (I now live in NYC), I second everything eitak said about the subway (or the "T" as Boston locals call it.) It is definitely the best way in from Logan Airport.
However, I will quibble slightly. "E" trains are, for reasons unbeknowenst to me (and, probably to most Bostonians) notoriously difficult to come by (they are on a schedule all their own...go figure.)
But here's an alternative: follow eitak's instructions to the letter from Logan -- except...when you get on the train to Government Center, get off one stop earlier (at STATE STREET) and switch to the Orange Line to Forest Hills. Take the Orange Line as far as the Massachusetts Avenue stop. Exit the train there and you will be about a block and a half from Symphony Hall.
And one word about Symphony Hall. It is purported to have the best acoustics of any hall/theatre in the U.S., so no matter where you sit, Bernadette's voice will come through as if you were standing next to her as she sings...
Enjoy!

| posted: 9/19/2004 at 7:28:00 AM ET OK. I am going to try to explain this upgrade thing better than I did before, just in case there is any residual confusion. 1.) Buy regular tickets (I think most of us have done that, right?).
2.) In December, you should receive an invitation to upgrade your tickets. These new tickets will include admission to the after-party. If you don't receive an invitation, call 617-598-3220 and request one.
3.)Buy the new tickets (somewhere around $250 per ticket is the estimated price). These tickets will be reserved Orchestra seating, the best in the house. They will deduct the price you paid for your first ticket from the cost of the tickets you are going to buy.
4.) Enjoy the show! :-)
I hope this makes it easier. I think I spoke with the lady from Symphony Hall three times to get it all straight! HA! But, there is a disclaimer to the after-party....although they are going to invite Bernadette to attend, there is no guarantee that she will. But, it should be fun! Maybe those of us who are going should meet up in front of the Hall or something before the concert, just to finally see each other in person after talking to each other all these months! :-)
Hope this helps! :-)

From: Maryland | posted: 9/19/2004 at 9:15:48 AM ET Hehe. You can also take the orange line. I just was detailing the green line because it's what I know like the back of my hand.
The Green line E trains aren't that hard to come by. In theory, they are. But you always see 5 or 6 of them pass you before you get a B,C, or D train (which is almost always what I need).
Either way, where you buy tickets online, if you click on the link to Symphony hall, it can give you instructions for using the T and driving.
AND there are several maps of the T at the stations and on the trains just in case. :-p It's nice.
And I'm definitely going to have to sell my other pair of tickets, so if anyone's interested...
