What you're talking about is an illegal bootleg. I hate to be a killjoy, but lately there seems to be an increasing number of references to them on the board. My suggestion would be to avoid this topic; many boards don't even allow them to be mentioned.

From: Maryland | posted: 7/7/2004 at 8:17:59 PM ET It might not be a bootleg though. (Even though I have a suspicion it probably is) Some videos are released in limited conditions, depending on how much money a company has to spend. And if there was a legit video out, it would most likely be out of print by now. So that could account for why you wouldn't walk into a video store NOW and buy a copy. But you would probably see more copies on Ebay...

I dont think it is a bootleg though because it has titles and credits on it...and most bootlegers dont do that kind of thing....i mean it looks like a pro company did it because its all from differnt angles and theres no audience sounds.......so i dunno, but for my own safety i guess we should stop talking about it

| posted: 7/7/2004 at 9:20:48 PM ET eww I won't even go see farenheit 9/11 because I can't stand Michael Moore. In fact, I loathe and despise him.
It's too bad Arthur Laurents is such an ass. Talented yes, but an ass (which I use because it's more appropriate than what I would like to say if this was not a forum that younger fans visited) none-the-less.
He put such a damper on this past production of Gypsy.

From: northern VA | posted: 7/7/2004 at 9:55:35 PM ET Here's my question, and forgive me if it shows my stupidity on such matters, since I am not involved in the theatre. Does the librettist of a show normally have such say-so and power as Laurents seems to have for Gypsy? From what I know, that's usually not the case (I'm more familiar with the composer/lyricist or his/her/their estate/organization having the rights, for example.). Why would he be the person to decide matters concerning this show than, for example,Jule Styne's estate or anyone else in the creative team-the Robbins estate or Sondheim? Was something decided many years ago? What am I missing? I've wondered this for some time, and I'm finally asking it. The book is fantastic, but why does he get to decide such matters,or is it a case where if one person of the team nixes an idea,it's a no-go?

Hope to see you at Broadway Barks!

There was actually a taping, a la "SundayITPWG" and "Into the Woods," in the works for PBS and it was squashed by Laurents?!?!?!
#@%$#&!$@![harsh words]*SOB@*($&%^#(*)#!!
Because it wasn't how HE would direct it?? or what??
I don't get either how he could put the kabosh on it. Styne's widow was at the cast recording session, and Sondheim was a certainly a supporter. Isn't that 2-to-1??
ARGGH!! I could just spit cotton.
