Registered: 2/4/2003 | posted: 6/2/2004 at 11:20:35 PM ET I hope Bernadette's on the cover, I'm tired of Vanity Fair putting "up and coming" stars that nobody over 14 can recognize.

From: Fla | posted: 6/3/2004 at 12:24:29 AM ET I'm pretty sure she's not-- if I remember correctly, that photo shoot was for big stars (either big broadway stars or hollywood stars currently on Broadway) that were in this year's Tony race. I am pretty sure people like Joel Grey, Kristin Chenoweth, Idina Menzel, Tovah Feldshuh, Sean Puffy Combs (or whatever his name is now), Audra McDonald, Anne Heche, Alec Baldwin, etc. are on the cover, but no Bernadette. But it should still be really good!
P.S. Hi everyone!! I still do read the boards a lot, I just haven't posted in SO long, so I just thought I'd say hi

From: NYC | posted: 6/3/2004 at 10:22:34 AM ET This week's Time Out NY that arrived yesterday has Idina Menzel, Donna Murphy, Tonya Pinkins and Kristin Chenoweth on the cover. The article is all about the new divas on Broadway. The article does mention Merman, Martin and a couple of others. No mention of Bernadette. I'm going to write a letter to the editor!

I can only think, hope, the omission is because Bernadette does not fit the negative connotations of the term, "diva."

Registered: 5/3/2002 | posted: 6/3/2004 at 1:06:23 PM ET I know there's been a lot of controversy about the Time Out cover because it features four of the women nominated this year for best actress in a musical, but does not include Stephanie D'Abruzzo of Avenue Q. That does seem like an odd snub.

From: NYC | posted: 6/3/2004 at 4:21:47 PM ET I think it is a snub - if I were her, my feelings would be hurt. I haven't seen Ave Q but I've heard its really funny. Maybe somebody will right Time Out's editor on her behalf. Unfair!

From: NYC | posted: 6/4/2004 at 9:47:50 AM ET For Time Out NY, the cover is a group shot of them and then there are individual small pictures in the article.

Registered: 11/6/2003 | posted: 6/12/2004 at 4:38:38 PM ET Just got my July Vanity Fair. No broadway stars on the cover --- just David Beckman.
There is a two page photo spread (Spotlight) in the issue entitled "One Singular Season." The brief blurb talks about how at one time "only seasoned theatrical actors would play Broadway, but now everyone wants the thrill -- and the credibility -- that comes from working on the Great White Way," and how performers from movies, music, comedy, television and theatre are now" walking the boards eight times a week."
The photo was taken by Mark Seliger on 4/28/04 at the Music Box Theatre. Clothing by Armani & jewelry by Tiffany.
Shown are: Audra McDonald, Laila Robins, Ray Liotta, Idina Menzel, Tovah Feldshuh, John Lithgow, Sean Combs, Christopher Plummer, Frank Langella, Eliz. Berkley, Swoosie Kurtz, Asley Judd, Sanaa Lathan Ricard Dreyfuss, Mario Cantone, Al Molina, Kristin Chenoweth, Phyliis Rashad, Anne Heche, Neil Patrick Harris, Essie Davis, Tonya Pinkins, Eric Stoltz, Bronson Pinchot, Donna Murphy, Joel Grey & Simon Russell Beale.
No Bernadette though
