Let's let the woman drink her coffee (or frappawhatevers) without stalkers.

One is a chance encounter, which is fun and lucky.
The other is stalking, folks.
Besides, it's so easy to see her and talk with her after an evening show. Why disturb her private life?

From: northern VA | posted: 3/17/2004 at 11:41:29 PM ET Starbucks' coffee does not appeal to me. It has an aftertaste-a bad sign-too many times for me to pay for it,and it's oily.
Does New York not have a strong local coffeehouse culture? Is that why there are so many Starbucks in the city? It just seems...odd that it's so prevalent there.
New Orleans has an interesting relationship with coffee-a good local coffee culture. It's the French-and Spanish-history. Whenever I go to PJ's (a local chain that was targeted by Starbucks) and see people going to Starbucks,I assume they're tourists and don't know about the strong local coffee culture.
An entirely self-serving motion....two reasons why I will never love Starbucks as much as I love these two:
Coffee in a French Quarter courtyard:

*My* Cafe du Monde:

Cafe du Monde-fun to go late at night/early in the morning-you see all kinds of people, from those getting ready to do business at the farmers' market,to those who have partied too much on Bourbon and need to sober up pretty quickly,to those having coffee and beignets before attending morning mass at St. Louis Cathedral. Children are welcome and when you go,you are reminded once again that there's no place like New Orleans. And there's usually-not all the time- a jazz musician (yay!) or a mime (well,ok) or a balloon artist (admit it,it's fun to get a specially shaped balloon) entertaining nearby.

Registered: 5/3/2002 | posted: 3/18/2004 at 10:46:56 AM ET To the anonymous person who thinks we're uptight, I have to say I don't agree. We do try to maintain a certain tone of respect and discretion here. I think that's the preference of most of the people who read and post on this board. I certainly appreciate the civility. If it seems too restrictive at times, that's because of the whole "slippery slope" phenomenon. If high standards of decorum aren't maintained, things have a way of getting out of hand and deteriorating very quickly (especially on the internet). Look at the questions on the Gypsy forum. There's no malice involved, but some very young kids who haven't developed good judgement yet are asking inappropriate questions. We try to steer clear of that here. I have to add that, of course, I'm not the spokesperson for anyone or anything--these are just my personal views.

To Anon: we are not really uptight but rather, just as Karen and the others said, respectful of our chosen star's space and privacy. If you want less "uptight", check out some of the other "fan" sites (which, to be fair to you, you probably have) and see how smarmy and -well-just plain uncomfortable some are.
Sorry you want more from us, but, trust me, you'll not get it here.

| posted: 3/18/2004 at 12:26:38 PM ET Jean's aviatar is from an episode of the Carol Burnett Show that Bernadette was on. It was actually one of those really long, one story shows (similar to the Curly McDimple one), rather than 3 or 4 different character sketches. That episode also featured Bernadette in a fantastic musical number.

Carol Burnett Show, Feb. 16, 1974, a mini-musical salute to Harry Warren, where Bernadette does an extended dance number (she's tapping on top of a piano in the avatar) to "Lulu's Back in Town." This is the musical portion of the show that "the Exorcist" sketch was on. It's on a DVD (also tape, I guess) that I got on Ebay, Collector's Edition #6.
I did a screen capture of the dance routine with a free DVD decoder I downloaded onto my computer; which reminds me that I only have a few more days before it self-destructs.

Ditto what Christine and Karen and Jean and others have said. I don't read the Gypsy forums anymore. Some of the posts make my skin crawl.
What will self-destruct,Jean? The DVD thingy or your computer? Will it flash a message-"This will self-destruct in 10...9...8.." like in those early 80s "the computer will overtake the world" movies?
Jenn, remembering why she loves southeastern Louisiana in the spring. Didn't I hear that some of you folks up in NJ/NY got some light snow?

LIGHT SNOW!!!!! I AM SO TIRED OF THIS WEATHER. We are supposed to get more over the next day or two. I'd be careful, Jenn, with your musings about Louisiana springs because I'm close to being one of those mild mannered people who just snaps and you find out later they took hostages. I WANT SPRING I WANT SPRING.
Enjoy your warm weather.

Think of me in July when the New Orleans temperature is in the high 90s (heat index at 100 or more) and the humidity is 66% or higher. Looking forward to it (and I'm born and raised,as they say)! Tips to tourists planning a trip to New Orleans in the summer: Don't.
Jenn, who is stuck indoors for now. Whining.
