From: Brooklyn | posted: 8/28/2003 at 11:52:04 AM ET I took my 14 year old cousin to see Gypsy on Tuesday night.
During Roses Turn she was crying, so after the show, I asked her what made her cry. She told me that she felt so bad for Rose because she gave her everything for everyone and got treated horribly.
My cousin (who was not a Bernadette Fan until Tuesday) was so moved by Bernadette performance that she actually was angry with the other characters for leaving Rose more then Rose for actions.
No one else but Bernadette could have made the audience care so much for her that they forget her actions.
My cousin is now hooked.

Bernadette's ROSE'S TURN has so many layers to it, and in so many ways, it is--in my opinion, the most fully realized interpretation EVER of this song. Andrew Gans really hit the nail on the head when he emphasized the intensity of the word, "Welllllll" as she launches into "Someone tell me when is it my turn..." There is such a sense of need, and devastation at feeling abandonded...she is simply STAGGERING. We could all write volumes about this performance...

I love this story. I love that Krasm took the 14-year-old cousin, and that she connected so much with Rose (oh, yes, of course, Bernadette had much to do with that). With the other entertainment offered to that age group these days, it makes me happy that a 14-year-old could be moved to tears by an "old" show like this, by live theater, by this tremendous performance by an extraordinary performer. It's a story that I wish Ms. Peters could hear or read. It's made my day...
To your cousin, welcome to the club of the Hooked on Gypsy.

From: London | posted: 8/28/2003 at 5:28:28 PM ET Its funny you mention that but I played "Roses Turn" to my friend, Ruth, today. Shes 15, like me, and she was just stunned. She didn't speak for a minute or so but when so did she just said "wow".
I gave her a hug, I'm finally getting through to my friends "BERNADETTE PETERS IS WONDERFUL!!!"
they say bernadette's wonderful..........and she is

Fortunately, I saw the show for the first time four days later.
Ruth, get thee to "Gypsy"!!

Not a bad seat, but I knew before intermission that I'd have to come back to see it again (and have -- four more times!!) with a seat in orchestra.
