Well, when you're doing a show that is not a big Broadway production or a big touring production and you're not a lead role then you've got to learn how to do your own make up. Even performers on Broadway will do their own make-up...after years of experience its not too difficult

I don't think this is relevant, but Elizabeth Taylor did her own make-up for the film Cleopatra. She didn't trust anyone else, because she knew exactly how she wanted it...and it was gorgeous!
I think most actresses (on the stage anyway) prefer to do their own make-up once they get used to the role. Would you want people fussing over you right before you have to perform. I would think it's sort of quiet time.

Oh wow. I guess I was so tired lastnight that I forgot to say that while Bernadette is doing a show-- like Gypsy...she does have her own personal hair dresser(from the show). I know that a lot of the kids on Broadway will get thier hair cut by the hair supervisor/hair dresser at what ever show they are in. It saves time doing it this way rather than going to a salon and some salons are not open on Mondays ( when most shows have off) But that doesn't mean that he does her hair for her every morning. She'll show up to the theatre having done her own hair.
