From: Arizona | posted: 6/28/2003 at 2:19:39 PM ET Any Telecharge gurus out there? I am used to using Ticketmaster which seems a little more user friendly.
Anyway, I have a freebie airline ticket that is going to turn into a pumpkin at the end of September, so I am looking for a single ticket somewhere out in that time frame.
Telecharge keeps returning some pretty bizarre choices, but the best seems to be Row A. Question is is that too close to the stage? i.e. looking up with the stage blocking part of the view. I do like to be close to the stage. Also, if I have a choice would stage left or right be better?
To make things even more complicated I will probably go on a day and see both performances since I'll be coming in from Arizona to NYC for a single day just to see the show.
Anyone else coming from further away?
My last question is the show is on Mondays? Is this something new that all shows are doing? Seems like Monday's used to be dark.
Thanks in advance for the advice
Jim.

| posted: 6/28/2003 at 3:34:54 PM ET Jim, Great to hear from you. Yes the show has always had a performance on Mondays. Sundays is their dark day. If you have a choice, it is better to be on the right hand side of the theater so you can catch all of Bernadette during Baby June's number. I haven't sat as close as Row A but it does seem like it would be a little close. Perhaps someone else can speak to that. The Shubert theater orchestra is not very deep and even the last row is a good seat. But if you are going for the "front row" experience than it might not be where you want to be. Just avoid all extreme sides (even right) as well as the rear mezz as the bacony overhang is quite bad. Front Mezzanine seats are excellent. Many of the "house seats" for Gypsy are located in the front mezz. Hope that helps. Let us know when you get tickets.
Oh, on telecharge, you can try for another choice than the first one you get. I can't remember the name of the "button" but one gives you a seat at the next performance and one gives you another choice at the same performance. Not sure if you saw this or not. Just keep trying.

Unlike Ticketmaster, you can call the number 24-hours a day, and there is a toll-free one, too. On the web, it is quicker and less random. Seat assigning seems to be strictly front to back, availablity-based. Unlike Ticketmaster, which...oh, I've said enough! THANKS FOR LISTENING TO THIS RANT!

Is it too late for me to chime in?
I've sat in Orchestra row A, both on the left and right side (A-5 & A-6); each have their good points, but I prefer the left (that is, as you are sitting in the theater) because I like to watch the faces in a few of the more emotional scenes, and I can see better from that side. Of course, sitting so close, and slightly off-center, you lose some perspective of seeing the dances and some other staging head on. If you can, how about sitting close for one performance and then farther back for another. Also, I sat in Row A of the mezzanine, quite a bit to the left, and had a good view, nothing blocked.
Let us know when you'll be in town...you never know who will also be around!
Jean
