I haven't posted in a long time but I do read this column and just feel compelled to post about my trip.

Well, I got back home Monday night after spending a week in NYC. I was there on business and pleasure...mostly pleasure.

I saw Gypsy twice during the week and was blown away both times by Bernadette's performance and the show in general. I had read on-line that she was ill the previous week with a cold. But, her voice was fabulous the two shows I saw. The first show, 6/2, I sat two rows back from the stage, left orchestra, and had a great view of Louise singing to the lamb. That lamb is so cute and lovable! At the stage door Saturday night, Tammy mentioned how sweet this lamb is. How many lambs have been used thus far? I also saw the 6/7 matinee show and this time had right orchestra seats, again two rows back from the stage. Well, the glove that Gypsy Rose Lee takes off and throws into the audience fell into my lap! I now have a great memento from that show!

I was at the stage door Saturday night and I realize after seeing the show twice before, that it's very difficult to get up close at the stage door if you actually were at the show. So, I started standing there around 10:45 prior to the show letting out with a bunch of others who had done the same. By the time the cast started emerging from the stage door, the place was packed. The crowds at the stage door after the show seem much larger than they did for the times I saw AGYG. I was able to get autographs and pics of John, Tammy, and Bernadette. John commented on how wonderful Bernadette is and told me he is having the time of his life. All three were very gracious and very approachable.

And yes, I went to the TONYs. What an experience, even if the awards didn't turn out the way I would have liked. I had third row center, second mezzanine seats (the cheap seats) and could see everything just fine. The energy level, even that high up, was palpable. Bernadette's performance left me with goosebumps and in total awe.

John Dossett seemed so enthusiastic, standing and applauding, as Michelle Pawk got her TONY.

I was, of course, very disappointed that Bernadette didn't get the TONY. I have seen both shows and and feel like comparing MJW to Bernadette is like comparing apples to oranges. Bernadette is in a class by herself. One has to wonder about all the factors that affects TONY voting. Was it politics? Negative Internet chat? Her Illness? Or the new fad show of the moment?

Who knows. But, after seeing a videotape of SITPWG and in total awe of her performance in that show, I can't imagine anyone doing a more difficult, challenging role that year, and yet she did not win the TONY then.

So, we vote by attending the show, as has been mentioned. We vote by watching and enjoying and leaving in awe every time we see the show. And has many have done, we vote by seeing the show as many times as we can get to NYC and afford to do so.

And yes, I will see it again. There aren't too many shows I can say that about. OK, OK, I have seen Take Me Out twice...LOL.

Anyway, 'tis back to reality in rural South Carolina after being in a New York state of mind for a week. What a contrast. But, I'll be back!
