The new cover of Show People Magazine with Bernadette and Sam Mendes is up on their site. I haven't received my copy in the mail yet but hopefully this means it is on the way. Can't wait.

After going to the website, I saw the cover which I thought was cute and then I noticed this poll. After watching the Tony's, which show are you most excited to go see? Answer: 78% said GYPSY!!! Bernadette's performance was phenomenal and it's showing!

Well I must admit I've voted 3 times but yes Gypsy is way out front. No surprise, she was phenomenal.

You know, I received my issue of Show People yesterday and was hugely disappointed. There are two beautiful photos of Bernadette and Sam Mendes, one on the cover and one inside, but that's it! Not another word about Bernadette or Gypsy anywhere. I subscribed because I somehow had the impression they were going to feature her in this issue. Well, besides that, I'm not too impressed with the magazine in general; I would guess it's not going to last very long.

Chrstine if it helps: She is not dressed as Madame Rose but is instead in a very pretty paisley sundress with one strap down. She is sitting on a trunk facing and slightly leaning forward with a smile on her face. Sam Mendes is sitting to the side on the back of the trunk looking "adoringly" at her. The article is actually about 8 high powered Broadway duos this season and Bernadaette and Sam are one of the duos.

Karen, I'm so glad you got your copy as that gives me some indication that mine is on the way.

In defense of Show People (no, I don't work for them), they did do a rather lengthy feature on Gypsy in the spring issue with Hilary Swank on the cover. So they probably thought another one would be too much for a magazine that only comes out 4 times a year. Though I too thought something more would be included when I heard she was on the cover of the June issue. Oh well, I take as much as I can get.

Can't wait to receive mine.

You said there is no mention of Bernadette inside the issue. Aren't they a part of an article on Broadway duos?

Yeah, the Hilary Swank cover was the first issue I received and that article was pretty good but its main focus was Sam Mendes. I was hoping for some big, huge, lovely valentine to Bernadette, but you're right, you've gotta take what you can get.

It's really not an article, just a portfolio of photographs with very little text. The whole issue is very thin with very little substance. I would think if they're only publishing as a quarterly they should have a lot more material. I'm afraid this publishing project looks doomed to me.

Well, at least the one after that will have Tony coverage. Oh, that's right...who cares! Sorry, I'm still a little bitter.

If any of u visit the site, just browse around and look @ the "Letter to the Editor" section....that curtain thing that the site does, so it gets kinda annoying...for those of u who can't view the site (Christine and or others hehe), I've typed out what it says for u:
-----------------------------
I always thorught trolls were found under bridges in fairy tales. Apparently, they are also found in red-velved theater seats, eager to badmouth Broadway productions. I learned this by logging on to that temple of Broadway Buzz www.talkinbroadway.com, where theater fans vent, rage, correct, blather, tout, swoon, seek discounts and, well, troll. "Trolling is when you post something inflammatory just to try to get a reaction from other posters," wrote one anti-troll. "And this site is chock full of trolls."

So add nattering nabobs of the net to the hurdles that Broadway producers have to clear. On the day I peeked in, the posters were in heat over Gypsy then in previews: When someone defended Bernadette Peters, saying, "She is a star," a troll riposted: "So is Lassie, but that doesn't mean she deserves to be doing 'Rose's Turn' eight times a week." Mind you, it works the other way around, too. The positive groundswell for Hairspray began with taste bytes. So, there's no question that chat sites became, for good or ill, a force this season.

Of course, you and I would neve admit our trolldom—and when we love something, we rave like maniacs. But face it, almost everyone we know snipes and has agendas, and underlying it all is the preposterous notion that if only the Hal Princes and Sam Mendeses of the world would take our advice, Broadway would be saved. Ridiculous, sure. But I'd hate to think of the theater without this messy, brawling give-and-take. Like trampled confetti, this too was part of the season we celebrate in this issue. It's kind of wonderful, in this world of "whatever," to have such deeply felt passions, however they are expressed.

(I hope I didn't miss n e lines when typing this out..I couldn't copy & paste).....but yeah, I thought that that article was interesting
