I believe at this point that is a question without an answer.

"Particular mention must be made of Bernadette Peters, who turns up briefly in a sort of sparkly Glinda the Good costume. She's the reluctant muse sent to help Alice with her writing. The muse is dressed like Oz, sounds like Queens and behaves like a bored student adviser." Alice Film Review, The New York Times, December 25, 1990

"I'm one star away from Dolly Parton ... and Raymond Massey is between us. I hope we don't suffocate him." Bernadette Peters receiving her star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, April 24, 1987

If someone gets a copy, I've got some DVD region-buster software.

What's really cute about it is that they've copied the Streisand "Concert" dvd by filming Bernadette in her dressing room putting the finishing touches to her make-up, getting the call from the stage manager, then walking from dressing room to the wings and waiting for her announcement and overture. Very cute, the only difference from the Streisand dvd is that she doesn't have her dog with her in the dressing room.

"There’s a lot in the world for us to turn our attention to — helping people, helping animals, and helping animals help people." ... Bernadette Peters, August, 2007

And what really stinks is that even if you do have the ability to watch it in the US with region buster software or a multi-region DVD player, for some odd reason, even though the store ships to the US, this particular DVD cannot be sent here....

That's probably because of the distribution rights. Whoever owns them didn't authorize distribution in the USA. They may eventually allow it, or they may sell the USA rights to another distributor so we can get it here.

No matter how badly those of you in the US want it though, please respect the artists and copyright owners and don't get an illegally obtained copy, it will only hurt the chances of a legitimate one becoming available here, thanks.

Current copyright law in the U.S. is designed to protect corporate interests and not artists. It needs to be completely rewritten. Under current law the concept of public domain has shrunk to almost nothing. Thank God the internet and digital technology have made subverting copyright so easy. I intend to obtain whatever I want, free or not, legal or illegal. If that helps destroy the already crumbling corporate media structure then so much the better.

Ditto what Karen says. I worked in copyright research for fifteen years. The artists are almost the last in line for consideration when it comes to entitlement. They would be very last in line, but that place is reserved for us, the fans.

Yeah, it's a good thing artists don't rely on royalties or residuals to survive anymore, isn't it?

I'll wait for the legit copy myself, thanks.

Ah- don't think we have one of those in my town. Perhaps I can see if Sanity or something will order it in for me. Also, what are the special features? I recorded the concert when it aired on TV, but is it worth buying the DVD for the features?

Yes, please tell us about the special features.

BP sang No One Is Alone at a special performance on opening night so that is included. There are also a couple of songs plus tiny bits of footage that weren't on the televised special.

Plus a couple of interviews....not with Bernadette though.

:-)
