BP Loves R&H is nominated for a Grammy in the category of Traditional Pop Vocal Album.

Congrats (and shouldn't she record more?)

HAHA that's so funny because on my way to work this morning I was listening to the radio and they mentioned how the GRAMMY nominations were going to be announced today and I thought to myself " Bernadette's new CD should be nominated' And for some reason I had a feeling it would be. I think this album has to be my fave of all her solo albums!

THE GRAMMYS are going to be held on Sunday,February 23rd at Madison Square Garden in New York City. So, atleast this means Bernadette will most likely be able to attend.

Here are the nominees in that category:

Field 3 - Traditional Pop
Category 13 - Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album
(For albums containing 51% or more playing time of VOCAL tracks.)

• Playin' With My Friends: Bennett Sings The Blues
Tony Bennett
[Columbia/RPM Records]

• Michael Feinstein With The Israel Philharmonic Orchestra
Michael Feinstein
[Concord Records]

• Bernadette Peters Loves Rodgers & Hammerstein
Bernadette Peters
[Angel Records]

• It Had To Be You...The Great American Songbook
Rod Stewart
[J Records]

• Christmas Memories
Barbra Streisand
[Columbia Records Group]

*I'm a little concerned that Bernadette is up against Barbra Streisand & Tony Bennett...but I think she can win it. Bernadette Peters Loves Rodgers & Hammerstein is a great album!
Barbra won't win probably b/c hers is a holiday album. Tony is old, so he has a really good shot.
But Bernadette has a great album, A starring role on Broadway coming up and a starring role in a movie with The entire Douglas family! She's gonna be all the buzz! LOL

I hope you guys realize that this is not a "Best Artist" category. Its for the ALBUM too not just Bernadette. So, its not just her who deserves all these accolades. Richard (Jay-Alexander), Jonathan Tunick, Joe Thalken,Gilbert Hetherwick,Rogers and Hammerstein, the musicians and the countless other people who worked on this album are all responsible for having created such a great album!!! The category is for "Best *Vocal* Album " however, if it weren't for all these people the album wouldn't have been recorded. I do have to say tho that this is probably my fave of all her solo albums. In my opinion this album showed off Bernadette's range and talent more then ever! She used tones and hit notes that we don't normally get to hear her sing. What I loved most was the mix of songs they chose for the album! She was able to use her higher range for songs such as IF I LOVED YOU and her lower range for songs like THERE IS NOTHIN' LIKE A DAME(except for that last note...WOW!). We got to hear her belt in songs such as I HAVEN'T GOT A WORRY IN THE WORLD. She got to show off the amazing passion in which she sings with in ballads such as YOU'LL NEVER WALK ALONE and SOME ENCHANTED EVENING and she got to show people what a great sense of humor she has with THERE IS NOTHIN'LIKE A DAME.What a great variety of songs!

While I like the album, it is not my favorite solo album of hers and I'm sorry to say it was not universally accepted by the industry. Tony Bennett's album was more well received so I think it might have the edge when it comes to the Grammys. Even though I think Bennett's voice has been shot for several years. And like you said, its not just the artist that this award is for. Funny thing, though, it seems Bernadette was up against Tony Bennett in 97 when she was up for a grammy. I think Tony won that year so maybe this year will go to BP. I'm rooting for her but not holding my breath.

I too have a feeling that Tony will be Bernadette's biggest competitor for this award! I've heard a few songs off Tony's album and his voice is so monotone. You're right, his voice definitely isn't as great as it used to be. There also didn't seem to be much variety with the selection of songs chosen for his album. Then again I haven't heard the entire album so who knows! But because of how well respected he is all across the board I think he has a pretty good shot at getting this award. I'm still holding out hope for Bernadette tho
Sure, she got a few negative reviews but I also read a big amount of great reviews too! There are those reviewers who no matter what she does will almost always give her a negative review and those who will always give her a postive review.I'm sure being nominated is an honor all itself!

And yes, Tony did win in '97 in the Traditional Pop category and 5 other times as well just in this category alone.

Yeah, I haven't actually heard Bennett's album but he is more well known in the recording industry now. Unfortunately Bernadette isn't and I think a lot of of voters don't even try to venture outside of what they know well. It did seem most of her bad reviews did seem to be from reviewers that probably mostly review Brittany Spears and the like and probably wouldn't know real talent if it bit them in the ... well you know. lOL
Being nominated certainly is an honor but she has had that honor before. Let's hope she wins one this year.

Okay, here's the perfect year for Bernadette. Grammy in February, Oscar (for best supporting actress in It Runs in the Family) in March and a Tony in June. Hee hee

That's sounds too good to be true Moljul! If anything, the Grammy would put Bernadette in better standings with my friends. Most of them aren't too fond of her, unfortunately, but if they were ever to rub anything about her in my face again, I could just come back with, "Well, she can't be that bad now can she? Because she won a GRAMMY for cryin out loud!

However, just being in a major motion picture has made her seem not so bad to my friends. Although, should I really care what others think?!?

Regardless, I have heard all of the nominees albums and Bernadette's is FAR superior than the others. Let's just pray that the voters won't overlook her!

No, you really shouldn't care. LOL
If your friends don't like her music or acting or whatever, they should not be persuaded by how many popular awards she collects. If that is how they judge talent...well, they need to get a better perspective.

I mean, if I don't like a particular actor or singer, I'm not going to all of a sudden like them if they start receiving awards.

Your friends (apparently) are the type to go along with the crowd. They should like something because it makes them happy or they can relate to it in some way; not because the media tells them to!

That's just my opinion though. I'm the type of person that will like something or not like something no matter what others think of my judgement.

I definitely understand where you're coming from, Christine. Other than the members on this site, though, I have no one else to share my love of Bernadette with. I was just mentioning that this might make them realize what a huge success she really is.

Oh well. I'm perfectly content sharing my love of her on this site!

Anyway, I won't be on here for a few days. I'll be at the University of Michigan for my musical theatre audition. AHHHHHHH!!! Wish me luck!

Just built a snowman, by the way!
