| posted: 5/15/2008 at 8:46:19 PM ET I just bought front row seats to Bernadette's Men Alive Concert, May 31st in Costa Mesa, CA!!! I can't believe that there were still front row Orchestra seats available this late into May! I am taking one of my best friends from my Musical Theatre class. There are two performances that day, one at 3 p.m., the other at 8 p.m. My friend and I will be attending the 3 p.m. performance. This will be my first time seeing Bernadette in concert. Then, two days later, I will be driving up to Hollywood for her book signing at "Book Soup". I'm ecstatic! The whole concert is a tribute to Broadway. I hope she will sing at least a few Sondheim songs....preferably from "Gypsy" and "Into The Woods". I will be taking pictures, and will post them asap. Is anyone else going to this concert??

| posted: 5/16/2008 at 7:25:53 AM ET From what I've read, it would seem that Bernadette would be performing throughout the show, but who knows? I know that the songs in the show will be a review of Broadway shows, but beyond that, I haven't the foggiest who will be performing the most. I'm assuming that she will be singing, and they will be her back-up, but I could be wrong. I know she's performed for other charities before, but I don't know if anyone else was performing with her. I'm also going to go to the Cerritos concert, but tickets aren't on sale yet. I also plan to go to the Modesto concert, since I'm originally from Sacramento, and I can stay with family. I wonder that she's having a concert in Modesto, since there isn't much around that area except farmland...Sacramento is the closest "big city" to that area.
Are you also going to go to the book signing on June 2nd?

| posted: 5/16/2008 at 12:27:24 PM ET I have a feeling the Men Alive show will be the men's chorus the first half/most of the show then a few songs with Bernadette and the men backing her up. Hopefully she'll do more than 2 or 3 songs though.
I already have my ticket to the Cerritos concert (I pre-ordered it online, not sure if you can still do that or not.)
I am not planning to go to her book signing, it's a bit of a drive, and my guess is if you want a book signed you'll have to BUY one there, and I already have one, don't need another one. I have heard that she's singing "Kramer's Song" at her book signings though, so I might succomb, would be kinda fun to see a "concert" for "free."

| posted: 5/16/2008 at 1:22:46 PM ET For anyone interested, I contacted Men Alive asking how much of the show Bernadette is doing, and here is their reply:
"She will be performing a set of her own as well as with the chorus. It’s a collaboration with her."

| posted: 5/17/2008 at 5:56:43 AM ET Has anyone met her, and if so, where? One of my best friends from my Musical Theatre class won't be able to come to the Costa Mesa concert, because he's dancing for a show in LA. He will be coming with me for the book signing though, along with my friend who's going to the concert with me. Bernadette is our inspiration, and the reason we took the class in the first place.
Is anyone planning to attend the San Francisco or Modesto concerts? I probably won't attend the SF concert, because I avoid the bridges to cross it at all costs. I will, however, be attending the Modesto concert, and I can visit my family in Sacramento at the same time. Be forewarned that Modesto is extremely hot in the summer, usually around 100 F or above. That's one of the reasons I left Sacramento 2 years ago, but to see Bernadette, I will drive up to the blistering heat.

From: Edinburgh, Scotland | posted: 5/17/2008 at 3:18:21 PM ET Too true, I'd settle for one little song and think it worth the price of the ticket.
At the Jerry Herman Broadway benefit here two weeks back, I kept wondering who would be singing "Time Heals Everything", and when Melissa Errico (who was completely unknown to the vast majority of the audience) walked on stage - my friend whispered, "well, at least she has Bernadette Peters' hair." .... We would have gladly paid the price of that ticket just to see BP sing that one song. .... Ms Errico was rather wonderful as it happens.

| posted: 5/17/2008 at 3:27:00 PM ET I met her before in Cerritos after a concert. Nice and easy to find stage door.
I honestly don't know why Bernadette is doing a concert in Modesto, maybe she has fans up there, it seems she sorta mysteriously "knows" where people live and tries to do concerts near where her fans are. She's been doing concerts in SF for ages, though, I once practically begged that she'd do one in the Los Angeles area years ago because the closest places she'd ever perform were SF and Vegas back then (this was in her "night club act" and "state fair" days.)
And aajanachle, the info on her Modesto and SF concerts is on Bernadette's official website, under Calendar. (Dunno why this site nopped out the link to her site and replaced it with "The Official Site." Hehe.

Will someone please tell her that I live in London?

From: Hove, actually. UK | posted: 5/17/2008 at 5:17:23 PM ET Yes, please tell her that the other side of the pond, we would be happy to have her over for a few concerts. As it happens, I'll be attending the matinee performance of Men Alive. Like Alexa I wasn't sure how much she'd actually sing so I bought a cheaper ticket (also because I'm on a research student budget). I'll be on research leave in LA and since this will be the first time I can see her live, I'm taking the opportunity. It just happened that the concert coincided with my trip across the pond. Next time I'll plan my research leave around her concerts ;-)

| posted: 5/18/2008 at 3:43:14 AM ET Thanks for the tip about the back stage being easy to find. My best friend Shayna and I will take you up on that tip.
About the SF and Modesto concerts, San Francisco she will be performing July 25th, and she will be performing in "Murderville"...oops, Modesto, on August 22nd. Modesto is known in northern California for having quite a few murders throughout the year. If anyone remembers the Lacy Peterson killing, that's what Modesto is known for, as well as being blisteringly hot in the summer months.
I haven't a clue as to why she would perform in Modesto, since there is nothing around that area but farmland. A lot of people think California is just one big city, but 90% of the state is composed of farmland. If you drive 5 minutes outside of Sacramento, all you will see are farms and rice fields, and that's how Modesto is...only smaller than Sacramento. There aren't any major cities around that area beyond Sacramento to the north, and Fresno to the south.
I hope she sings "Time Heals Everything", "Children Will Listen", "No One Is Alone", "Some People", and "Rose's Turn" at the three concerts I will be attending...I don't care if the songs are split up between the concerts, but those are my favourite songs of hers. I love everything she sings, but the songs from "Gypsy" really speak to me. Next semester in my Musical Theatre class, I will be auditioning both of those "Gypsy" songs for our musical review show, to pay homage to the fabulous Bernadette.
I was just wondering, what should I wear to the concert? Very formal, semi-formal? I bought a black dress last night that is semi-formal, but the men in this concert will be wearing tuxedoes, and I don't want to be underdressed. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

| posted: 5/18/2008 at 6:36:37 AM ET This is what I found on menalivechorus.org:
Men Alive and Bernadette Peters! What a combination: A Tony Award-winning actress and a chorus of gay men - yes, we will truly recreate Broadway on the OCPAC stage!
For our season finale, we celebrate the music and magic of the Big Apple with our summer extravaganza, New York City Rhythm! With a visit to The Met (yes, opera our way!) and a journey through the greatest musicals of Broadway, we promise this will be our most exciting and lavish production to date!
Bernadette Peters, legendary singer/actress and Broadway's brightest star, joins the boys of Men Alive for this very special show, performing with the Chorus some of the greatest tunes from the Great White Way as only she knows how. Please click here to learn more about Bernadette Peters.
