I know they usually tape all of sondheims shows (but i am also aware usually the only ones taped are his lyrics AND music, and of course he didnt do them both for GYPSY).........I was just wondering

From: Boston | posted: 7/6/2004 at 11:09:15 PM ET You have to have a "reason" so I said I was writing a paper on burlesque for school. haha. Many say that Tyne Daly was sick when the CD was recorded, but on the video she sounds just like that. Bernadette's voice is divine, Tyne's isn't. But she is one hell of an actress and is VERY scary. When she says "and now, I can make you..." it was pretty frightening. Her costumes were awful, not flattering at all. Ugh she had this awful pink frock on that looked like a nurse's outfit during "Some People." Christa Moore played Louise and was so spectacular. I liked Tammy in the role, but this girl was something else. If you have the CD you know she has a marvelous voice, but her acting was extremely powerful, and at the end, there was no hug between Rose and Louise. It was sad because I didn't get the sense that they had made up from fighting, it was like Louise had outgrown her and well Rose, "it sucks to be you!." Curtain.
A lot of the directoral decisions were similar to Mendes, the strippers were definately not nearly as good as our BLISS and her gals. And Herbie had a very nasally annoying voice, and he was a mousy little guy and I couldn't stand him.
Thats all I can think of to say about it right now.
One day I'll go back and view "Song & Dance."

I've been a GYPSY fan for a long time and saw the Tyne Daly production twice on Broadway. However, this is the first time in the fifteen years since that revival opened that I have ever heard of a videotape of it. And, I sure would have bought a copy if I had. It's also the kind of thing you'd almost be sure to find popping up on ebay from time to time.
Maybe this one slipped past me, but I usually have a pretty good eye for these things.
I am just wondering out loud.

Registered: 5/3/2002 | posted: 7/7/2004 at 7:16:23 PM ET Jarred, the key words in Elmo's question are "legitimate commercially available" as in lawful and authorized. What you're talking about is an illegal bootleg. I hate to be a killjoy, but lately there seems to be an increasing number of references to them on the board. My suggestion would be to avoid this topic; many boards don't even allow them to be mentioned.
