And Santa Claus is Coming to Town reminds me of the Judy Garland Christmas show where 11yr. old Lorna Luft tried belting that to Jack Jones until she got something caught in her throat and starting choking. I've sometimes wished there would be a holiday TV special devoted to old clips of the most disastrous performances of Christmas songs ever. I'm sure there's more than enough to easily fill a very funny hour.

LOL That would be sooo much fun; but I'm pretty sure Richard Jay Alexander could do a MUCH better job than me. The man is brilliant.
Winter Wonderland would be a nice duet. Maybe with Tony Bennett or Tom Wopat or John Dossett.
I would also be thrilled if she did a duet with Cyndi Lauper and/or Bette Midler.
By the way, good choices everyone. Maybe it will have to be a special Double-cd edition so we can get all of our favorite songs in there.
*We can leave out Little Drummer Boy. I don't like that song. lol

From: northern VA | posted: 4/25/2004 at 11:26:46 PM ET Well,it's all settled. Just think of the time we've saved for Bernadette in selecting the songs. Everyone worked together just fine, and she'll just have to record a double CD. I feel sorry for her in that she will have to sing Christmas songs in the middle of summer, but I'm sure she'll be handsomely compensated for her troubles. And there's no need for acknowledgements in the notes-except maybe Christine as the hypothetical producer.
That is,if the Christmas CD is really, really, really in the works.

Registered: 6/11/2002 | posted: 4/25/2004 at 11:41:44 PM ET I just hope they're not rushing Bernadette in trying to get this CD recorded within the next 2-3 months. After doing such a demanding show like Gypsy, it is absolutely critcal that she be on vocal rest for awhile and have some time to recoup.
Believe me, I'm as excited as the next fan about her Christmas album, but I just want the end product to be nothing short of its possible best.

| posted: 4/27/2004 at 8:25:34 AM ET She definitely does need some time to rest after this run. Who even knows if it is a Holiday album they are planning.
Perhaps they thought the show was gonna run until September, and therefore didn't plan a Holiday recording, but another kind instead that could be done in the later months. Then again, considerig we've already done some of the work for them, they could jump on this opportunity. lol j/k

Registered: 6/7/2003 | posted: 4/27/2004 at 8:42:29 AM ET Oh Madame hypothetical Producer -- and the other record executives reading this(!)--here's another theme for the hypothetical CD:
Standards, which might include the Harold Arlen Medley she has done in old concerts; a tribute to Jerry Herman; some songs from the 40's big-band style (Boogy Woogie Bugle Boy, I'll Be Seeing You, etc.); and maybe a cover or 2 of something that Streisand sings, like Memories (OK that's not a good idea).
Insert hopeful smiley face here.
Thoughts for a sunny Spring day.
J
edit: And please finally record the definitive version of "Send in the Clowns".

| posted: 4/27/2004 at 3:21:52 PM ET Yeah. I was thinking maybe it's some kind of Broadway/Standards cd, but that would be very simialr to her last recording (the R&H one).
A friend of mine said she would love to just hand Bernadette a tape recorder and say, "Here, sing these (insert handing her a list) songs." lol That would be fun.
