From Internet Network: 81.131.142.x | posted: 5/18/2004 at 2:44:56 PM ET I'm going to the final performance of Gypsy, followed by dinner at the Union Square Cafe (which I have had recommended to me). Is there a dress code for this restaurant ? Is there also anywhere where I can read the menu online. I know this is an unusual request. Please don't have a go at me for posting this. I am genuinely looking for information.
Thanks.

| posted: 5/18/2004 at 4:00:44 PM ET I don't know if you're a male or female, but as far as a dress code goes, I'm sure as long as you don't wear Raggy jeans and sneakers and a t-shirt you'll be fine. Which frankly, nobody should even wear those things if they're going to a Broadway Show IMHO.
I'm sure kacki pants and a golf shirt would be fine for a guy, and a skirt outfit or dress, or dress pants with a nice shirt for a girl. Most of the restaurants in the area do not require a jacket and tie type of dress.

There are several New Yorkers on this board,so I'm hoping one of them will read this and help you (edit: I see Christine has answered while I was posting!)
If not,try this site:
Chowhound's Manhattan message board
Do a "Find" search (depending on your computer-it may be the CTRL key + the F key) to see if your question has been answered (the first Union Square thread does not discuss dress code-I didn't look to see if there are any other threads.). It's a very active board and they seem quite helpful.
BTW-I don't find this an unusual request at all. You'll find that not all the posts here are theater-related (this is more the catch-all board). And the pre-dining and post-dining experiences are an important part of the theater experience (at least,it is to me),lol.
I do have the 2004 edition of The New York Times Guide to New York City, and it has a very positive review. Sounds like you'll have a great meal.
It's been a while since I've used a Mobile Travel Guide, but I have a feeling they do discuss dress codes in their books. Zagat's might-I did have a Zagat's NYC guide, but the majority of my books are packed away!
