My friend and I are planning to go to NYC November 16th, Sunday. We want to catch a matinee of something but don't know what to see. Our first choice is Wicked. If we can't get student rush tickets or lottery tickets for that what should we try next? Boy from Oz..Nine..? Any suggestions. Thanks!

Altho I haven't seen it yet, I would think you'd like to see "The Boy From Oz", just so you can see the apparently great star-turn by Jackman. Also haven't see Wonderful Town yet, but again something to consider. (I'll see both of these soon.)

I saw "Nine" with original cast--didn't think too much of it as a musical but liked the story and -again-great star turn(s) by Banderas and Jane K. I personally woudn't bother with the current cast.

Have you seen "Urinetown"? I really liked it (don't know about the current cast, but it's probably worth a visit.)

I assume you've seen the usual suspects? (Hairspray, Millie, 42 Street, Chicago, Phantom---Cabaret maybe not, at least if you were MY daughter! )

Have fun, Jean

Hmm.... okay, well, I know you didn't like MILLIE. lol. And you're not a big RENT-head. Soooo....

I would say CABARET, if you're going for something worthwhile, and interesting, and relevant, that you can get tickets for (especially since it's closing.) CABARET is a little racy, true, but the issues in the play are very important, and I think most people come away feeling that when it's over.

WICKED has been selling out right and left, and is going to be damn hard to get lottery tickets to, and there is no student rush. On weekdays, there are about 50 people waiting for the lottery, so on a sunday, there will likely be about 50 -100 people present for 28 tickets (14 pairs.) If you REALLY want to see this show (and you should seriously see it, because it's my new favorite show on Broadway, even over GYPSY, which is saying a LOT) consider calling the box office for balcony seats, which are $40. They're high up, but at least you'll see all of the choreography from there(and it's quite a spectacle, let me tell you)and the show is WELL worth it.

Good luck!

I saw Urinetown and really enjoyed it also, and it's closing in January because they're lease ran out; but I don't know if that show is your style Megan. I have a feeling you wouldn't like it.
I haven't seen The Boy From Oz yet, but I heard it's really good. I know you've already seen Thoroughly Modern Millie

Avenue Q is actually really funny. It's rather vulgar, but sooo histerical.

I dunno Hopefully you'll get Wicked tickets, because that is definitely my favorite show on Broadway right now.

I saw WICKED from the balcony and it was still fabulous! I agree with Christine, it's my favorite show on Broadway also.

My friend is just raving about CABARET. Adam Pascal is the emcee (definitly spelt THAT wrong haha), and she said he was amazing. I would also consider THoroughly Modern Millie, because that show is excellent as well.
