Ho Hum.

But you know what this means, don't you? It means that there will be a gazillion threads on the theatre boards devoted to people exclaiming "Omigod! this is the greatest performance of all time. Patti LuPone is God. She can do no wrong. She was born to play this part. Not like poor dear Bernadette who meant well but was a complete failure not to mention she was so overwhelmed that she missed 90% of the performances. Patti LuPone rules the universe forever!"

And the stupid thing is I already know that I will vow not to read those threads and then I will inevitably break down and read them thus tormenting my soul and sending myself spiralling down into a pit of rage and depression. Yes, I can see it all now.

That's what I did last night Karen. I don't think I'm going to look anymore.

The really galling bit is that I freaking saw Patti LuPone in Gypsy and it was nothing special whatsoever. It was community theatre night in Bumtuck, Arkansas. But the claquers managed to will themselves into seeing a "triumph." Oh, this is going to be so annoying. I almost wish that it could be filmed so that in the future objective and intellectually honest people could see how overrated the whole thing was.

Okay, unseemly and inappropriate rant over for today. I promise. Probably more coming at a later date though.

There is actually a surprisingly well-rounded discussion on the Broadway World Message Board right now.

"Particular mention must be made of Bernadette Peters, who turns up briefly in a sort of sparkly Glinda the Good costume. She's the reluctant muse sent to help Alice with her writing. The muse is dressed like Oz, sounds like Queens and behaves like a bored student adviser." Alice Film Review, The New York Times, December 25, 1990

"I'm one star away from Dolly Parton ... and Raymond Massey is between us. I hope we don't suffocate him." Bernadette Peters receiving her star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, April 24, 1987

I know I'm a bit late, but AMEN! I personally can't stand Patti LuPone. Her fans scare me. They actually make me look sane.

I was going to get to go see her in Gypsy, but then we decided to go to new york at the beginning of August. I'm missing her by 2 days. . I'm so crushed. Gypsy is one of my favorite shows, patti lupone is one of my favorite actresses, and it would be my first Broadway show. Ugg.

Oh well. I think I'll go see either Rent (Anthony rapp and Adam pascal are in it for one month in August!) or Company (Steven Sondheim!!!). I can't decide. what do you all think.

I'm new by the way. hi.

You'll probably enjoy Rent more, or maybe you should consider Spring Awakening.

yeah i want to see spring awakening so badly, but i'm going with my mother...and it's defiantly not something i want to see with her. I think Rent maybe the best bet. I think she could handle that one. It's so hard to find a show that we both will like; my moms like Andrew Lloyd Webber and I'm all about Sondheim.

Hey is anyone going to see Lupone?
If you are a review would be very appreciated! Patti is (second only to Bernadette) one of my favorite divas. Sadly I'm going to be missing her.
