If you are a review would be very appreciated! Patti is (second only to Bernadette) one of my favorite divas. Sadly I'm going to be missing her.

quote: i just saw patti. Not half bad except that it seemed very rushed somehow. And the points where one would hope she would sing her brains out she acts more. But her prescence is great and the ovations are endless, even before she even utters a word onstage! She is supported by a great cast and is very funny as well. If u dont love her performance then at least go 4 a laugh. Alison fraser is a riot as tessi tura as are all the strippers!

When I saw LuPone last year, she missed the humor completely but maybe she developed a lighter touch for this production.

Bernadette's Gypsy was only mildly successful - very strong sales for the first several months and then dropped off. That was after a 14 year span between shows. With only 5 years, they've already shot themselves in the foot. I mean no disrespect to Ms Lupone but I don't think her name really drew them in at Sweeney Todd. Well at least not a ton of people for weeks. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but Sweeney Todd didn't play to particularly packed houses, did it? I know their operating expenses were quite low and they were able to return a profit which was wonderful but they seemed to have respectable but not outstanding ticket sales with very little marquee value helping the sales.
"Particular mention must be made of Bernadette Peters, who turns up briefly in a sort of sparkly Glinda the Good costume. She's the reluctant muse sent to help Alice with her writing. The muse is dressed like Oz, sounds like Queens and behaves like a bored student adviser." Alice Film Review, The New York Times, December 25, 1990
"I'm one star away from Dolly Parton ... and Raymond Massey is between us. I hope we don't suffocate him." Bernadette Peters receiving her star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, April 24, 1987

| posted: 4/10/2008 at 5:01:37 AM ET Hello, everyone. My name is Christina, and I live in Long Beach, CA. I met Patti LuPone when I was 10, and although she was very nice, and down-to-earth, Bernadette is still the epitomy of Mama Rose. If you search on Youtube, you will find Patti singing "Some People" and "Rose's Turn". It's aweful. She wasn't convincing as an actress or singer. There is absolutely no comparison between Patti and Bernadette. I've listened to every version of Gypsy there is, and Bernadette is by far the best Mama Rose! The only Broadway role that Patti commanded was "Evita". Patti should leave Sondheim musicals alone.
