| posted: 9/25/2005 at 2:11:03 PM ET I went to see this show that Julie Andrews directed last night. It's kind of like Thoroughly Modern Millie only it's a little cheesier and it's set in France.
It's really fun though. The music is good, the cast is funny.
It's not exactly Broadway material, but it is worth the price of admission.
Last night was the closing night at GoodSpeed Opera House in CT. This week they start off the tour in Delaware. Here's a list of cities and dates:

The Boyfriend was one of my two favorites, played incessantly; I probably could still sing along with it today. I have never seen a production. Strange.
Glad you got to see it, Christine.

Did you know Bernadette was in a production of The Boyfriend, in the mid-sixties at the Wedgewood Dinner Theatre in Glen Cove, Long Island? She listed the credit in her sixties bios.

Fiorello. It was very easy to get the story from the music. I was at first pleased but then a little nervous when Barbara Cook started singing I'll Marry the Very Next Man at her May 2005 concert. Whew! She changed the lyrics to be politically correct. And what a great treat to finally hear someone sing a song from this favorite of mine.

When I saw Audra McDonald in concert earlier this year, she sang "When Did I Fall In Love," which was interesting because it was one with only a couple of other songs from the classic Broadway repertoire. Everything else was by contemporary composers. So I guess she loves the score too.

From: NYC | posted: 9/26/2005 at 11:21:49 AM ET Oooooh - I would love to see The Boyfriend. Jean and Karen - thanks for this chat - Chip and I are going to see Barbara at her Met Debut in January and then I'll be seeing Audra at Carnegie later in the spring. I can hardly wait to see these two phenoms in a whole concert each - so far, have only been lucky enough for a song or two at Sondheim events.

I might be in Boston on October 14th, so perhaps if I have time I'll see it again.
The girl playing Polly is an acquaintance of mine, lol so I am encouraging people to go see her show so she can pay her rent.
But really, it's a very good production.

Thanks for the recommendation!
By the way..the one playing Polly...isnt she the one who adopted "Curly" from Broadway Barks on the Adoption Tales episode????

| posted: 10/8/2005 at 7:20:38 PM ET LOL yes she is. Funny fact though....if you go back and watch that adoption tales, you will notice the dog sitting under some furniture before she actually "Adopts" her. She did adopt the dog (now named Daisy), but she adopted her about a year earlier.
The girl who plays Maisie (Andrea Chamberlain) really reminds me of a young Angela Lansbury. She is very good.
