Kate ... Best wishes in your next endeavor. You and your fellow cast members in Bug are super.

In Last Week of Performances, Bug Recoups Its Investment; Closes Jan. 30

By Robert Simonson
January 28, 2005

With only a few more performances to spare, the Off-Broadway critical hit Bug has recouped its investment.According to the producers, the Tracy Letts play grossed $1.8 million. The show has been licensed for production in more than 15 American cities and a new London staging is expected in 2006.

Bug will hang its last fly-strip on Jan. 30, at the Barrow Street Theatre, after nearly a year of performances.

The run is nearly an eternity by the current measure of Off-Broadway runs. The show began on Feb. 26, 2004, and received some of the best reviews of the season and went on to collect four Lucille Lortel Awards including Best Play and Best Direction and OBIE Awards for both the Ensemble and the Design Team.

The current cast features Kate Buddeke and Jonno Roberts, with fellow cast members Helen Coxe, Michael Cullen, and Troy West. Only Cullen remains from the original cast.

Buddeke, who replaced original cast member Shannon Cochran, plays the lonely, good-hearted, but vulnerable motel hermit, Agnes. Cochran won an Obie for her achingly realistic portrayal.

Letts' spooky tale tells of Peter, a sweet but paranoid loner who moves in with a fearful, motel-dwelling woman hiding from her violent ex-husband. Their brief idyll is ruptured, however, when Peter begins to spot bugs everywhere he looks—even inside his body.

Scott Morfee co-produces with Amy Danis and Mark Johannes.
