My family and I were taking a trip to NYC for Christmas last year and my step-dad was arranging to see some Broadway shows. I told him that I wanted to see Gypsy because my director raved about it and said that "Bernadette knew what she was doing during every single moment that she was on stage." I wanted to see that--I had to. So we decided we'd buy tickets to the show. I knew that Bernadette was someone who truly touched people's hearts because when she walked from to the stage from the back of the house the audience roared. I watched the rest of the show barely breathing, mouth completely wide, with a lump in my throat. Then the show was over. I was embarrassed to tell my family that the show was life changing. I was too embarrassed to tell my family that I was emotionally high after watching Bernadette and that I was dying inside to meet her. So we finished out our vacation and went home to South Dakota. I listened to the sound track the whole way home. Since that day I have dreamt of what it might be like to see her perform again...or even meet her. I just can't say how much she's touched my heart enough. She's incredible.

One thing is that you can express those sentiments here and not be embarrassed.
I agree 100% with your director:
"Bernadette knew what she was doing during every single moment that she was on stage."

From: New Jersey | posted: 9/3/2004 at 7:19:54 PM ET Same here. I felt that way the first time I saw Gypsy too. That's why I had to go back two more times--I never felt that way after a live performance before and I wanted to hold onto that feeling. I, too, barely breathed and had a lump in my throat during the show all three times, especially during "Rose's Turn." That is why I am aspiring to be a theatre critic, so I can attempt to capture the feelings I have after performances. Anyway I know this is random, but thank you for relaying your experience.
