From: London UK | posted: 9/1/2001 at 4:30:55 PM ET Hi, I know this message may not fit in here but... When you go to the stage door after the show, is it really packed? I would love to see BP in Gypsy when it is in the West End, as I live in London, but I probably wouldn't wait backstage as I would think - "oh there will be thousands of people back there, ill never get a pic or anything signed"! Is this so? Or should I give it a go? Iv never been back to the stage door, so I dont know how many people hang around waiting. Was it hard to get an autograph - do you have to push yourself to the front? How long does she sign for? Does she do a couple, then get taken away in a car? Or does she stay till everyones got an autograph? She sounds really cool to meet! I think id faint! hehehe! Well, hope someone can help me!
Thankyou

When I said Hi to her after a recent concert there were maybe 25 people. At another concert there were maybe 6. But thousands? No. Most people are to shy to express their appreciation of her.
It wasn't hard to get stuff autographed, but please don't be pushy! She will take her time and get to everyone but if people start getting pushy she'll leave. She doesn't want to be hassled. At the last concert I was at she saw everyone who wanted to see her, *everyone* but I don't think that's the norm.
If you want to meet her after a show it's probably better to go to an evening performance. After matinees where she's doing the evening performance she usually takes a nap to rest up for the performance.

From: London UK | posted: 9/3/2001 at 6:12:03 AM ET Ok, thankyou Kevin, that helped me alot. Id never dream of being pushy, but I can imagine people, in there anxiety want to make sure they get something signed, wether she likes it or not! Well, I usually go to matinees, but I'll make sure my parents can take me to an evening performance on this SPECIAL occasion.
Ok, I have another question...
If I wrote to her PR in America, asking for a signed photo, are there any chances on me recieving one back? If I sent a s.s.a.e?
Ok, just another quickie...
How tall do u reakon she is?

| posted: 9/3/2001 at 8:36:10 PM ET There's always a chance of receiving an autographed photo, but from what I've heard from other people is that she receives *a lot* of mail and it can take years for her to get back to you. You can try it but I wouldn't expect a reply quickly. You'd be better off waiting after a show.
She's short. Maybe someone else can correct me, but I think she is 4 foot, 10 inches? She usually wears very high heels, 3-4 inches, when she performs.

From Internet Network: 152.163.205.x | posted: 9/13/2001 at 11:19:45 PM ET She is a lot taller than 4'10. I have met her several times, and I am about 5'1. She is a little than me with heels on (i always wear heels too), but without shoes she was about my height. I am pretty sure she is like 5'2.
Hope that helped
Good luck with meeting her... she is generally really nice at the stage door

Registered: 3/22/2003 | posted: 3/22/2003 at 6:13:26 PM ET i am a huge bernadette fan. i have been to two of her concerts in fort worth and dallas. she is spectacular. it would be the ultimate if i could meet her, but it is difficult because i am in a wheelchair. however, i am going to see her in gypsy in ny in june and i would love to meet her. i also saw the revival of into the woods with vanessa williams. vanessa was really good but bernadette is awesome. outside the theatre i waited to see vanessa williams, but there were too many people blocking my way, so my friend got in front of several people and got her to sign my playbill. this time, when i see gypsy i want it to be me who gets to meet bernadette. she is the ultimate diva of broadway.

She literally let over 30 people into her dressing room to sign autographs, take photos and to chat. She is the quintessential peoples performer. God Bless Bernadette. God Bless America.

From Internet Network: 205.188.209.x | posted: 5/11/2003 at 2:56:41 AM ET Your best bet is to wait at the stage door after an evening performance -- on a weekday, because less people go to the theatre during the week, and of those who DO go during the week, most probably have to jet home to get up for work the next day. So there may be less people hanging around, and then you might have a better shot of getting a good spot along the barricade.
I recently went to a performance of Gypsy, (she was phenomenal) and Bernadette was very gracious. It was a friday and so of course there was a decent crowd, but she stuck around to sign the autographs that she could, and she even remembered to come back over to me to take a photo when I had asked (she went over to the other side of the barricade to sign some more Playbills, and then came back over -- I thought she would have forgotten, but she did not.) The most important thing to remember is to be PATIENT, but to ask nicely. For instance, of the people standing at the barricade, 90% of them had cameras, but nobody had the presence of mind to ask her for a photo; I was the only one who asked, and so I was the only one who got a picture. Just know when to open your mouth and when to close it. ;-)

I told her I fly 9000miles from Taiwan to see your show. And I saw her Annie Get Your Gun 3 years ago. Then she remenbers me. Everynight she saw me out the stage door, she said hello and told with me. She is so kind. I'm very happy to be her super fan.
I was born on Feb. 28th, the same with Bernadette Peters, but different year. It's a wonderful day.

Registered: 6/25/2003 | posted: 6/25/2003 at 6:26:58 PM ET Hi!! I'm new here. I thought I'd share my recent experience to help everyone out that was wondering about anything.
I recently attended Gypsy, and since it was a Saturday, there were a ton of people wanting autographs and pictures at the end. Probably well over 150! I couldn't get to the front of everyone, so I just decided to come back Monday.
Monday night, there were not nearly as many people there, and since I hadn't attended the show that night, I was able to get right up to the front before anyone inside watching. If you have time or if you live in New York (like me) I'd recommend this. You'll get a much better spot.
Once she came out, I asked her to sign my program and while she was signing I told her I really liked her shoes, which were EXTREMELY cute! She seemed very appreciative and laughed a little and said thank you. Then I asked for a picture and she said sure. It went pretty quickly, but overall, I'd say it was a great experience!
One piece of advice...don't touch anyone if you ask for a picture. I've heard that most stars feel really uncomfortable if you put your arm around them or try and hug them. I saw a lot of people getting way too touchy feely with her and it seemed to make her feel like they were getting in her personal space!!
Last thing...even though I didn't have anything from previous shows or movies or CDs with me, she seemed to really enjoy signing for people who cared enough to bring headshots or posters from other shows. One little girl, about 8 years old, had her standing there intently listening for about 5 minutes as she listed all the shows and movies she'd seen her in and her favorite songs from each. I could tell Bernadette and everyone around thought it was really cute and she thanked the girl and made sure to go back over and say goodbye before she left!
