I'm seeing Gypsy in a week. Does anyone know if everyone in the regular cast will be performing? I *really* hope so!

LOL. I don't think there's any way for us to know that until the day of the performance. Just as it says in the Playbill: "Understudies never substitute for listed players unless an announcement is made on the day of the performance."

But Bernadette is back from vacation, and healthy, as far as I know (it would have been publicized on Playbill.com if she wasn't) and nobody else (that I know of) in the cast is on vacation. I think Patty Duke was going to perform as Rose sometime this week (maybe it was today?) but she has laryngitis, so that's off.

So just cross your fingers the night you go and hope for the best! I'll be there the 16th (thursday) and I'll have my fingers crossed all day.

"A pretty sunset, is there?" asked Nanny, coming up to the witch's room in one of her rare forays.
"She's sent the crows out to blind the guests coming for dinner," said Liir.
"What?"
"She's BLINDING THE GUESTS COMING FOR DINNER!"
"Well, that's one way to avoid having to dust, I suppose."

Just so there is no confusion, Patty Duke is not filling in for Bernadette.
She is playing Mamma Rose in a production of Gypsy in Washington State.

Yes -- what she said. I knew nothing about this, only read a snippet from an email about Patty Duke performing in GYPSY. I suppose being in NY now my first thought is GYPSY on Broadway. Of course, there are other GYPSIES. My apologies for the confusion.

On that mix-up note, though, wouldn't it be a scream if Broadway did some sort of fundraiser where the leads in different shows "swapped" homes for the night? My favorite combination (at the moment -- lol) would be Bernadette as Donna in MAMMA MIA and Louise Pitre as Rose in GYPSY. Just for like, a night. I think it would be hysterical.

(Too bad there would just be too many factors involved, like rehearsal and all, to do it, but wouldn't it be funny?)

Also, I think I would take Nathan Lane out of the Producers (when he comes back, that is) and stick him in Hairspray. (Harvey Fierstein would make a hilarious Max, even though he'd never be able to pull off the singing.)

Also, I'd take Alan Cumming (when he returns for the closing of CABARET -- cross your fingers) and switch him with Matthew Broderick.

LOL, UCFGuardGirl. I actually thought Bernadette would make a wonderful Donna the first time I saw Mamma Mia. I was like "That almost looks like it could be a Bernadette role..." It's just funny to see someone agrees with me. And I'd love to see Louise as Rose, too. She's such a sweetheart.

Oh Good Heavens! I absolutely LOVE Patty Duke--and think she is one of the most talented actresses ever. But as Mama Rose? No offense to the enormous talents of Patty. She should definitely do much, much more stage work. But I just can't see her as Mama Rose.
