Well all she said was that she didn't take private lessons. She did say that she had a good choir director that pointed her down the right path. Honestly, I've taken from a lot of different people and I understand her frustration with the people who get you no where, i.e. just singing scales and such. As long as you've had some training to learn how to sing properly than you are ok. Now if she had just sang without ever learning in the first place, then we would have a problem, but I'm sure that her choir teacher taught her the proper way to sing, as mine did.

Still, I'm quite surprised that she does not contined to use a voice teacher as you can't learn everything in high school.

It is amazing how much you can learn from a high school choir. My choral director is very dedicated and spends time with us individually. He has taught me sooo much in four years and my voice has improved ten fold since my freshman year. I can understand how that must've helped her.

But to add something to my last post, I'm definitely going to train after high school...I think it's good to have a vocal coach for as long as you're going to be singing, and there's always room to improve. Bernadette always says how much her voice has been strengthened because of lessons.

Definitely, I've had a really good teacher that I will continue to go when I can get back to Birmingham(right now I'm about and hour and a half away). She takes your voice and teaches you how to sing what you want to safely, in my case theatre. She has taught me how to belt safely in any note in my range and how to use chest voice without ruining my vocal chords. But my professor at college doesn't do theatre music so much as classical and he's driving me crazy! He refuses to let me belt anything and I haven't even had a piece of music in front of my face since school began.
