I really enjoyed the first article a lot! (I hadn't read it before; it must be new) Thank you so much for posting!

What worries me is Bernadette saying she's not sure how long she wants to stick with the show. From what I understand she's contracted for a at least a year, right? So that means she can't leave earlier or she'll be in breach of contract?

I sound insensitive and I totally don't mean to. Bernadette should do what is best for Bernadette, and I would never want her to do anything that jeopardizes her voice or her health. But umm... you know, I also just want her there in October. After her May illness occured... Well, that's made me nervous that any ticket I buy to see Gypsy will end up being for the day she gets sick, goes on vacation, quits the show, or is somehow otherwise engaged. I am WAY paranoid. (And broke. Did I mention? 100 dollars is like my entire life savings. I have to eat rice and ramen noodles for a year because I'm seeing this show. lol.)

Ah well. I know that you can never be sure about these things, but I still get all riled up because I cannot control it. Grrrrr...

You can't predict the future...but I cannot imagine Bernadette leaving before October. I am pretty sure she will be there for the entire year. She stayed with AGYG longer because she was having so much fun and it wasn't as demanding of her voice and emotions. This show is...but the show is all hers right now. I imagine that the investors would not put so much money into a show without a major commitment from the star.
I was also worried that she would be out the night I saw her. I think it's natural...especially when you really admire the star. She was there though! Bernadette gets bad press for missing shows, but I know that she only misses performances when there is a major health issue of emergency. SHe rarely missed an AGYG show. The one occasion I think of was a show in which she almost threw up on stage and had to leave in the middle of a performance. I think she missed the following show, but then she was back in it shortly. She had a cold for many AGYG performances and would even carry tissue on stage to wipe her nose and face. That just shows what a trooper she really is.
In 2001 she was doing 5 concerts in San Francisco and by the second show she was starting to lose her voice. People who attended the fourth performance said it was painful to watch her because you could tell how sick she was. She ended up cancelling the last show, but it just goes to show how far she will go before having to cancel. OKAY....I am REALLY RAMBLING right now...so I will end this by saying I don't think you should worry!!!

I don't think there is any need to speculate about any early departure for Bernadette. She has a contract to perform in the show, and tickets are being sold on the strength of her name, through March 13, 2004. For a role of this magnitude, even if she were to leave at that point, that is still a long run. As of today, she has played for more than 60 consecutive performances without being absent. As I have stated before, she has a very good track record when compared to some other stars of her stature. I would not worry at all--if there were to be an unexpected absence, you can get a full refund or an exchange ONLY when the advertised star is absent. But I would put ANY amount of money on the fact that she will be in it for the entire run of her current contract, and, although I doubt she will equal or surpass her long, long run in ANNIE GET YOUR GUN--she may very well end up added a short extension after the term is up. There are NO indications whatsoever that she is ill, or suffering from fatigue or anything else which would cause her run in the show to end prematurely. Her voice when I saw the show on July 1st was incredibly strong, and she appeared remarkably vibrant and rested after the show. And she will likely have some vacation time during the run--which we all need, even those of us who do not perform the score of GYPSY 8 grueling times every week. Enjoy the show.

Just a quick question...Bernadette, when asked about what she might do next musical theatre-wise, said that "this role is probably the one..." So, does that mean she doesn't plan to do any more Broadway after this show? That would be fine; it's her life...I was just curious.

I'm sure she would do something new if she was really interested in the part. She's not the type of person to say she's never going to be in a Broadway Show again. I don't think she wants to do any more revivals.
