However, from the very beginning this movie was stated as being a vehicle for the 3 generatrions of Douglas' to work together. THEY are essentially the stars. The movie is more about the father-son relationship than anything else. I think its just awesome as it is that Bernadette is even in the movie. And playing Michael Douglas' wife no less!!!
Just like GYPSY...is Bernadette expected to mention Kate Reinders in EVERY interview? No. She's in the show. Doesn't have a lead role. But that doesn't mean she's any less appreiciated. I'm sure Bernadette's performance in the movie will garner her enough attention. She has some really great scenes in the movie!

| posted: 4/17/2003 at 1:27:38 AM ET No offense, but it seems that sometimes people throw in a smiley face to make a serious comment seem less serious just so they can get away without sounding argumentative (heck, I've done it myself once or twice b/c people are so quick to jump down your throat). It's become a defense mechanism. LOL
I'm not saying you did that Lisa, but I can understand why Bwaybaby took your comment as a serious one.
I too wish Michael Douglas would mention Bernadette in an interview, but he is not required to do so. I don't blame him for not mentioning her (afterall, he's more excited to talk about finally working with his father), but I do blame the talk show hosts for not mentioning her.

i know he is in no way obligated to do so, but it is confusing as to why mr. douglas would NOT mention bernadette. only he knows why i guess. i just think that he should...personal opinion...after all, its not like she's a day-player, she's playing his wife!
sorry about all the confusion.

Just a nice comment about Bernadette Peters and Rory Culking are the non-Douglas' playing my wife and son. It would take 3 seconds and they have lead roles - not the main leads but still lead roles and are billed accordingly.

| posted: 4/17/2003 at 12:13:55 PM ET Well, when they're on for like a one or two segment interview, I understand not mentoning the non-Douglas people, so that's why I'm not mad about the Letterman non-mention; but they were on Oprah for the entire 40 minutes of taping! They (meaning Michael Douglas & Oprah) could have mentioned Bernadette. That is what gets to me. I never really liked Oprah anyway.

Registered: 3/10/2001 | posted: 4/17/2003 at 1:31:18 PM ET This has come up several times before...its sometimes very difficult to judge someone's tone while reading a post. Confusion is bound to happen. Michael Douglas mentioned in a recent interview that this is the first time in movie history that 3 generations from a family are all in one movie and playing the roles that really pertain to their own real life (father-son-grandson). So, this is a BIG deal. Many many people contributed to making this movie and yeah, it sucks that not all of them are going to be mentioned but Michael and Kirk are essentially the stars of the movie( which I know you know by now because you said you did). Please refer to my example about Gypsy in this thread. When you see the movie I think you'll understand why Michael and Kirk are getting most of the attention

| posted: 4/17/2003 at 1:40:48 PM ET I don't think anyone is arguing they are the stars. I think just as fans of Bernadete's, we want to hear her named mentioned more. I don't think it should be that serious of a conversation where people have to watch their tones. All in good fun.

And you're right, I don't understand why people are making this such a serious issue-- as to why Michael Douglas hasn't mentioned Bernadette. Sure it'd be great if he did but he didn't and there's really not much we can do about it. I highly doubt its going to affect the outcome of the movie or its success. I do understand, I guess, how some of you really want to hear her name but I don't think Michael Douglas should be blamed

From Internet Network: 152.163.189.x | posted: 4/18/2003 at 1:05:56 AM ET Well I guess if Michael Douglas hadn't been on Letterman in 18 years, it's quite possible that Bernadette hasn't been on since 1986.
About not having her name mentioned, since Oprah is taped, one of the Douglases or even Oprah could have mentioned her and it could have been edited; same with Charlie Rose although Rose could have introduced the clip he showed by saying that Peters and Culkin rounded out the onscreen family. None of the entertainment shows mentioned her either at the NY premiere. I think she got more coverage back at the Alice premiere and we all know how big her part was in that film.
Here's a thought, Gypsy gets rave reviews and Charlie Rose does an hour with Mendes, Laurents, Sondheim and Peters.
