Secondly, I was talking with a friend tonight who lives no where near NYC and she was saying how badly she wants to see GYPSY but can't....well it got me thinking about a few things....
I hope that because Harvey Weinstein is one of the producers that they'll release this on video( like they did with Into the Woods).
I guess sometimes I forget how lucky I am that I live so close to the city that I can see shows so often. I really am grateful and now I feel bad about some of the posts ( like the Gypsy "reviews"). Speaking for myself, I don't want others to feel left out, out of the loop or make it seem like I'm bragging about being able to see the show. I'm not suggesting that we should stop talking about the show or our opinions about it. I just wish everyone could go see it Atleast when IT RUNS IN THE FAMILY more people will be able to see it

| posted: 4/17/2003 at 1:07:06 AM ET You shouldn't feel bad by any means. I mean, yes we are very fourtunate (those of us that live in or near NYC), but there are things that we sometimes miss out on in other places.
I understand what you mean though. I know that I sometimes think that New York City is the only place in the world where anything exciting happenes; but it's just not true.
I guess sometimes I do sound like I'm bragging because I've seen Gypsy a few times already and others have not even had the pleasure yet; but like you Bwaybaby, I also wish everyone could see it. I'm not trying to rub it in people's faces, just excited when I talk about it.

I personally love the tape of Into the Woods and would really enjoy having a copy of Gypsy to show future grandkids! (P.S. I also wish they had made a tape of Annie Get Your Gun - is there some problem with copyright laws that they cant do this?)

| posted: 4/17/2003 at 1:52:56 PM ET It is at the library. Getting to see the tapes is kind of tricky. You are only supposed to view them for educational or production purposes like you are studying a role or directing or producing a production of the show. In other words, a professional reason though you don't actually have to be a professional. Getting show filmed for a video release is very complicated. Dealing with the unions and the performance rights, etc. I agree it is great when they work it all out but I never hold my breath for any show I love to be recorded.

You need to make an appointment in advance I believe as that collection is understandably very popular and there are only so many monitors.

You can't just go and say you want to see the workshop production of SITPWG or AGYG cuz you missed it. You have to have "valid" reason for viewing the tape -- writing a paper, etc.
