There is a half-page picture of Bernadette playing the trumpet from Hey! Mr. Producer. The picture is really good! The way the light was hitting her face and hair is brilliant.

Anyway, half the article talks about Sam Mendes' career, and the other half talks about Gypsy.

I tried to find a link to the article, but I don't think Show People Magazine has links to the articles.

Here are some interesting quotes (I think they're interesting) from the article:

"Devotees of Peters' famously long, curly locks should know that she will be wigged for the role."
"I'll start wrapping them now around my head," says Peters with a laugh.

Quote from Bernadette:
"I read the script and I could see her coming to life. But what about playing a monster? I never judge a character." (though she concedes the difficulty of the task).
"It's a very hard score, but it seems I'm always taking on hard things. In Song and Dance, I sang the whole first act myself. But this is a very rangy score, a very emotional score, and a very emotional show in the speaking, too."

From the article:
"The choice to cast Peters lies not with Mendes but with Laurents, who turns 85 this July."
"Everything's Coming Up Roses" is more generically perceived as an upbeat anthem, when in fact Rose browbeats her daughter Louise throughout the number, to the point of child abuse."

"Laurents was there at the Carnegie Hall concert in 1996 that marked Peters' New York solo concert debut. Come the first-act finale, Peters spoke of being barely a teenager on the road in Gypsy. Suddenly, she launched into Some People, by the end of which Laurents was sold."

Laurents says, "Bernadette went at it like a bat out of hell."
"And with that, an idea that had begun percolating as far back as 1987 with Peters' bravura turn as the Witch in Into the Woods began to seem a reality."

"But what about the very real, unsanitized sweetness that Peters exudes? Not a problem, says Laurents."
"To me, when you get somebody who makes you think, 'Ah, that sweet little thing,' it's then that you watch out-that sort of person can be the biggest killer of them all."

Sam Mendes also says, "I haven't done anything were I haven't been told that someone's miscast. But that can be the very response that gives the performer his or her power." And besides, Mendes goes on, "I have auditioned enough people with Bernadette now to know that she's going to surprise people, she really is, and to know what a good actress she is, also."

Thanks for the exerpts. Have you received your issue already, I take it. Mine has not arrived but from what I have heard they hit everyone's mailboxes over a period of about 2 weeks. :-)

And actually they do link some of their articles on their website but right now they have the last issue up there so they probably haven't put the new stuff up yet. But those of you who don't get the magazine may eventually be able to read the whole thing online.

Yeah, I saw that the website still has last season's issue up, but I couldn't even find the articles for that issue LOL I'm not that great at finding links when I want them.

Perhaps when the new information is posted, you would be kind enough to post the link

I do look foward to reading what you (and others) thought about the article.

ON the homepage they list the articles and if you just run your cursor over them, they serve as the link to the article. :-) Can't wait until in arrives. Maybe tonight

My magazine was in the mail tonight and it is great! You are right, Christine, it is a great picture of Bernadette. It looks like it might have been during the rehearsal for Hey, Mr. Producer because you can kind of tell she has black jeans on and I think her shirt is the one she wore in The Closer with Tom Selleck. Which would make sense since they were both in 1998. And the article is just wonderful. It will get even the skeptics excited about this production and clearly shows how Bernadette will be the definitive Rose. My advice to everyone on this board - GO OUT AND GET THIS MAGAZINE. Can't wait for the June issue too.

For all of you people in New York, (I'm speaking to you, Moljul, or Christine-NYC) I would certainly like a copy of this magazine and don't know of a place nearby (or in the state, for that matter! ) where I could get a copy. Would there be anyone could pick up a copy of the magazine and send it to me? I would, of course, pay for the cost of the magazine as well as the shipping and handling. (I've bought a few things from certain individuals on this site before and have been very good about getting the money to the seller) My address is BernadettePetersFan@yahoo.com
Thanks a lot!

Bernadette-Fanatic, It might be easier and cheaper in the long run to subscribe to the magazine. It is only $15 for the year (4 issues) and I'm assuming in addition to this current issue you will definitely want the next issue with Bernadette on the cover. There is a discount listed in another thread about the magazine where it will only cost you $12. I think you might end up paying at least that for the two issues at newstand prices plus shipping. Plus you will get two more issues that might have more Gypsy articles in them.

The website is showpeoplemagazine.com

If that isn't possible, let me know.

If I can find a copy of the magazine in Manhattan tomorrow (actually, today since it's 1:30am lol), I will certainly pick one up; I agree with Moljul though...it would be cheaper for you to subscribe (and if you don't want it after 4 issues, just don't re-subscribe).

Either way, I'll try to find a copy. If you end up not wanting it, I'm sure I can find someone else that will.

That would actually be wonderful Christine! The only reason I would like someone else to pick the magazine up is because I'm afraid if I were to subscribe to the magazine, it might get a little damaged in it's arrival. With Bernadette's big issue coming up, I wouldn't want to take a chance in the magazine getting ripped or beaten up. If you could e-mail me once the magazine is bought, I'd really appreciate it!

Thanks a lot! You're wonderful!

Totally Understand. I'm contemplating going out and buying the June issue so I have a nice clean copy with no address label on it. If Christine is unable to get you a copy, let me know and I'll look for one too.

The little Broadway shop in Shubert Alley between the Shubert Theatre and the Booth Theatre sells SHOW PEOPLE magazine.

The one with Bernadette on the cover will not be out until JUNE! LOL The current issue with Hilary Swank on the cover should be on newsstands. But this issue has a great article on Gypsy and a cool picture of Bernadette.
