I kind of hate that all of these concert articles keep mentioning her age.

I KNOW! I guess it's a compliment, like it's unbelievable that anyone her age can look and sound the way she does and be so cute and energetic but, ugh, please. I think it's sexist. How often do you read, "Bruce Springsteen, turning 63 this year, performed at the Grammys?" Her age is just NOT the most important thing about her and I wish these reporters would shut up about it. What I want is more details about what she's doing in her weight workouts, give us numbers of weights, sets, reps! Now THAT would be useful. I'd take that article with me to the gym.

I completely agree! To me, Bernadette's age is irrelevant.

I certainly enjoy reading these articles/interviews (and appreciate them being posted), but I do wish they would vary a bit more. It kind of seems like she's being asked the same questions over and over again. I'd be interested to know what she does to keep her voice strong, how she prepares for a show, or what it's like travelling all over the country to the different venues.

I know! These are things I would ask if I had the chance:
What precautions do you take when flying from show to show, both to protect your hydration and also to avoid germs?
Do you have a normal warm-up routine the day of the show? How long? What is the focus? Do you prefer to do it by yourself, or do you work with a coach/teacher when possible? If on your own, do you use some kind of pitch reference (pitch-pipe, piano, phone app, etc.) or do you follow how it feels in your voice and ear?
When you don't have anything scheduled that requires singing in the next few months, do you take voice lessons? Do you ever practice on your own? You mentioned before something about taking a voice lesson every day during Song and Dance - do you always prefer to work your voice in the context of a lesson or do you sometimes exercise it on your own?

You mentioned a few times that you have fooled around with opera arias in your voice lessons, but that you'd never perform them. Since we won't get to hear you sing them, can you tell me which ones you've worked one, and which your favorite ones are? Why? Do you bring them to the same place in terms of acting and expression as you do the songs you perform on stage?

Whose idea was it to work on the arias? Was it something you wanted to mess with it or did Adrienne Angel think it would be good for your voice to stretch it that way? Lots of women in musical theatre who have done a good deal of belting lose their head register in their 50s; do you credit your recreational opera singing with keeping your head register strong, or do you think it's just a by-product of having a higher, lighter voice, and staying in generally great shape?

When you took voice lessons as a teenager, was it more developmental or was it more about getting ready for whatever audition or show was next? Did you ever play around with classical singing then or did it come later?

How do you deal with the TSA liquid restrictions and keeping your hair and skin in such fabulous shape? Do you check what you need? FedEx?

What do you do to make sure you get a good night's sleep in a hotel?

I could go on...but you get my point...too bad nobody ever interviews her who actually knows anything about singing, or travels much. There are a lot of detailed questions that she could be asked that are not "personal" at all, and would not be even remotely invasive, but would still be fascinating and very helpful, potentially, to a lot of young aspiring performers.

It would be great to know the answers to all of those questions--especially the rehearsal ones (I always find that to be interesting).

I wish Bernadette would do another "Ask a Star" session... or give a town hall meeting.

Ripley123, you so need to interview Bernadette, those are great questions - I cannot sing a note but I am fascinated by the singing process.

Also, for years I have read reviews and interviews with Bernadette and they always mention her age, I always thought, wow she looks amazing and looked no deeper but it wasn't until you mentioned that men are never described in such a way I realised that it's actually a unnecessary to go on about her age so much.

There's also the little bit of pressure it puts on her that isn't fair. I certainly hope she lives for a very long time, but if that happens, eventually, even Bernadette is going to look old. Which isn't tragic to me, but what would be is if she felt pressured to put herself through unnecessary pain and trauma to go the Joan Rivers route. I just want her to be healthy and happy and energetic and feel good about herself. If she has nice skin and a nice figure too, well, that's peachy but it's a bonus. I almost people are standing around like vultures waiting for a big old crease to pop up.

Bernadette has said in interviews that she doesn't mind getting older, so maybe she wouldn't feel that pressure to look a certain way. I think she's too sensible to go the way of Joan Rivers and will just let her body age the way it is supposed to.

I'm sure when Bernadette is 89 we'll all still be saying, "Wouldn't she be great for the part of the Witch in the 50th anniversary show of INTO THE WOODS?"

Another review! http://www.artscriticatl.com/2012/02/aso-review-broadway-baby-bernadette-peters-hits-all-the-right-notes-at-annual-gala-benefit-concert/?utm_source=twitterfeed&utm_medium=twitter

And of course, they got her age in the first paragraph.

"Her version of “Not a Day Goes By” (also from “Follies”) makes her character’s pain so visceral that the audience is stunned, and that happens every time she sings it."

LOL! Um, how about some research?

I know the age comments in these articles are supposed to be flattering to her, but at this point it's just getting ridiculous. I mean, come on, enough already.

Review: Bernadette Peters keeps it short and sweet at ASO Gala

Too bad there were sound issues... and the concert was only an hour.

Someone posted a set list that said she sang "In Barry's Eyes". And one of these reviews called it "a love song". Oy. I have always lived in Cali and NYC, and I try, GOD I TRY not to be catty about "flyover country" or even call it that, because honestly my roots are so blue-collar they're navy, and it's a miracle I went to college, and I know a great deal of the country is more sophisticated than anything that went into the making of me. But GOD these reviews are making it hard for me not to go all coastal snobby! I mean...these people TWEET and TUMBL can they not use wikipedia?

Ah, yes, I remember the great love song "In Barry's Eyes." One of my favorites.

I do enjoy reading these reviews, but a little accuracy would be nice. All it takes is a quick Google search to clear up any confusion about a song title or a musical director's name.

It looked to me like the concert was close to 80 minutes, with no intermissions. That's really not that short for a solo concert. Musicals are much longer, plays are usually longer. One-person shows and concerts, not so much. The Patti and Mandy concert is just a bit longer but they have an intermission. When they make their shows longer, like Barbra Streisand does, you end up with guest performers like Il Divo. Personally I'd rather have a shorter concert of just the artist I came to see, working at maximum intensity, and no intermission, then dragging it out with intermissions and filler.
