| posted: 6/13/2010 at 1:47:52 PM ET Sean Hayes participation in the opening number is quite extraordinary. It's so nice to have a host who has real musical talent.
Sean does several funny little comedy bits. Bernadette is the punch line of one of them. See if tonight you can see it coming.
Bernadette presents the last award - Best Musical. They had to increase the font on the monitor because she had a little trouble reading the telepromter. She was thinking she might have to wear her glasses but they must have increased it enough because her second attempt was flawless.
Helen Mirren and Rosemary Harris are GORGEOUS. Every day make-up. It wasn't a glamorous kind of thing. They were just simply very pretty women.

Bring on Bernadette!

It makes me feel old that a bunch of psuedo rock-n-roll stuff is dominating Broadway right now. I am actually nostalgic for the times when musicals had show tunes in them. Still it was pretty surreal and funny to see Nathan Lane and Bernadette clapping along to Green Day.

This was like the changing of the guard, or the passing of the torch, or, well, something like that, made me feel a bit old;
glad I got to see CZJ, now I will appreciate BP even more!

Presumably because she was considered the best this year by the Tony judges, and also, like Bernadette, has been on the stage singing, dancing and acting her heart out since she was a very young child. It's been a very good weekend indeed for Zeta-Jones, on Saturday she was awarded a CBE in the Queen's Birthday Honours List, that's one step away from being made a Dame, not bad for a kid from Swansea.

From: Edinburgh, Scotland | posted: 6/14/2010 at 2:02:18 PM ET No sweetie, I know you don't, that's a real shame, and is probably why so many Americans have to come over here to get their knighthoods and damehoods and other royal honours from HM The Queen... which, I'm sure, are all perfectly fragrant, not a stinking or smelly one in the bunch.
Senator Ted Kennedy, Andre Previn, Steven Spielberg, and several of your US presidents, are just a few of the many Americans only too eager to accept honoury knighthoods from our Queen in recent years.
For years Michael Jackson pulled every string in the book to get one, but didn't, and couldn't understand why not, poor dear. What's the matter with you, have you been turned down as well?

From: Los Angeles, CA | posted: 6/14/2010 at 3:31:44 PM ET I also felt REALLY old watching the Tonys. What's worse, is these new fangled "musicals" are written by people more or less of my generation. But then again I was an odd kid, listening to old musicals and Judy Garland and old Barbra Streisand records while my friends were into Queen and Pink Floyd and stuff. I pretty much lost interest in "new" musicals around the 1990's though when Disney stepped in and changed Broadway into eye candy instead of art.
I was a bit surprised by Zeta-Jones performance though, I'm not really that familiar with her stage work, but that song was written for someone who wasn't a strong singer, so uhm ... yeah. But you gotta have good diction with all those t's and r's and stuff. Any time I hear that song, if I hear the word 'tit' then I write the person off as incapable of performing Sondheim. Yeah I'm a bit harsh but hey it's Sondheim, you gotta enunciate the words. God help me if Bernadette sings "tit" I'll have to disown her.

From: tonawanda,n.y. | posted: 6/16/2010 at 6:33:16 PM ET I too was disappointed in CZJ's performance and a friend called me from Philadelphia right after to say what a terrible performance she thought it was! I was embarrassed for her! Also, why wasn't Bernadette in " Sondheim on Sondheim" on Broadway? I thought Barbara Cook"s rendition(on The View) of "Not a Day Goes By" was lacking in emotion.. more like a rote interpretation! I know many of you love her, but I was not touched in the least! Bernadette sing/cries when she sings this song and I cry too! Alas, NO ONE can interpret Sondheim like Bernadette...so was she on tour and too busy with other things that she couldn't perform in this show?!
And YEAH she is in "A Little Night Music"....YEAH YEAH YEAH!!!
To the loveliest lady of song!
You will keep on giving me joy forever...

No doubt she was offered a role and turned it down. Why? Because she is a smart woman. There isn't a very challenging role in the show and the show itself is not very good. The video clips of Sondheim talking are fasinating and its a talented cast but ultimately its the video that drives the show and the entire concept is somewhat unsatisfying.
And actually Bernadette is a part of the show. She is shown a few times in the video footage and is ultimately included among the pictures of his collaborators and friends. I think this is the best way she could be a part of the show.
