I'm waiting (mostly patiently) for the new video Also, going back to the Pennies From Heaven part of the thread; although it is absolutely one of the strangest movies I've ever seen, the scene between her and Christopher Walken makes it worth the price. I seriously think that is one of, if not her best acting scene of anything she's done. It's so raw and true to the situation that your heart just breaks for her and what she's having to do. I've watched the movie several times since buying it because I keep getting new things out of it, but I've probably watched that scene more times than anything else in my ever growing collection of all things Bernadette.

From: Edinburgh, Scotland | posted: 3/21/2008 at 11:05:07 AM ET I haven't met anyone who doesn't think Bernadette's acting in Pennies From Heaven is anything other than wonderful. I think part of the reason people find this film so strange and difficult is because the author of the piece, Dennis Potter, was a such a unique and challenging writer. Throughout his illustrious career he consistently created new and innovative ways to present his stories ... it's no exageration to say that many of his numerous British television dramas were considered shocking, not least because of his depictions of his characters' pyschosexual behaviour. The film Pennies From Heaven suffers greatly from the fact that it has been condensed down from eight hours of it's original BBC tv length. Potter set this story in London and it's surrounds - and there are many who believe it works better that way. The original BBC production starred Bob Hoskins and Cheryl Campbell, both of whom were absolutely brilliant. Alas, while Bernadette matches up to the original very well, Steve Martin, as an actor, is no match for Bob Hoskins. The good thing is that Potter wrote the screenplay, God only knows what the film would have been had he not.
You really should rent or buy the original BBC production of Pennies From Heaven to get a proper idea of what the story is all about and to see just why the music is so important. This artlicle explains it very well ...

Fred Astaire: "I have never spent two more miserable hours in my life. Every scene was cheap and vulgar. They don't realise that the thirties were a very innocent age, and that should have been set in the eighties — it was just froth; it makes you cry it's so distasteful." ... Hmm, I don't think Fred liked the film much.

| posted: 3/22/2008 at 6:45:20 PM ET ohh yeah. the hanover one..i dont see it either. but i saw it last night. bernadette wasnt in it a whole lot..just clips..it was mostly about the new theatre opening.
anyways, i just went to walmart to try the video thing there...and the file was too big so it was going to need 2 disks. well i must have waited an hour and nothing was happening. the file on my camera is huge apparently thats why its not uploading anywhere. i cant make it smaller so i guess you guys are never gonna see it. and ill have to delete it eventually i guess so i cant even keep it for myself. its driving me insane.
