What a lesson in the show must go on tonight. I've never seen anything like that. She performed at a beautiful open air theater in the middle of Fever rain starting coming down by the end of the song there was thunder and lightening. She started singing Unexpected Song and stopped after a few lines and said Is it snowing? They promised me a dry place. I think I just felt hail. Well I was going to sing Mr. Snow next anyway but I need a sweater and the heaters so they need to send out the big burly guys with the heaters. And she waited until Patty came with the sweater adn she said well do I have anymore jokes oh no I can't tell that one are there children here? So then a woman came with the heater and she said oh look it's a girly girl. Patty came with her Mama Rose sweater and she tied it around herself but she was really cold I felt so bad for her. The beginning of the concert was fabulous. She sang the usual songs she didn't sing Faithless Love though and she came out and said that it was her first time in Santa Fe and that she thought it was a very spiritual place and that the sky looked like moonstones and opels and that she had bought some cause they had great shopping here and that you need a little shoppinng with spiritualtiy. Then she told her soup or sex joke. She was very playful in a great mood. When she sang Dame she got on the mans lap and burst out laughing when she was singing to him. When she finally did get to sing Unexpected Song the audience cracked up as soon as she started and she said You guys are out of control. After the rain let up she said well now that we've been through the four seasons let's talk about Gypsy. She kept looking at the rain a bit nervously but she didn't let it bother her or change her performance at all. She kept going just like she always does. What a class act she is. The whole time her hair was blowing in front of her face. She was very sweet at the reception. I'll post pics soon.
Oh I forgot to add vocally incrediable her voice was crystal clear and so strong. And she acted the songs tonight more than I have ever seen her act them out. She did a completely new interpretation of Rose's Turn.
One more thing. She took her sweater off before Rose's Turn and then she asked Marvin to put it back on her and she said see this is part of the show the rest of the sweater that was an ad lib sweater.

Can you elaborate on her "new interpretation" of Rose's Turn?

Just want to thank you for your post, Rose. Had never seen Bernadette Peters perform. Was so enchanted with this fabulous artist that I didn't even know it was raining until it started blowing across the audience and stage. I missed a lot of her comments/asides, so really appreciated your recap.
Can't find any local coverage yet, so would appreciate it if you or anyone else would post any thing you find.

Rose's Turn was very interesting. I'm not really sure how to describe what she did. At one part instead of singing it she screamed it like she was having a tantrum. It looked almost (and I mean this in the most complimentary way) like a child who didn't get her way and was lashing out at whoever prevented her from getting it. She stood still and was pointing and screaming about what she didn't get. I really liked it but I've never seen her do it quite like that before.
