Some industry insiders are trying to persuade the Oscar committee to have part of the awards show in NY...which would be awesome since IT RUNS IN THE FAMILY takes place in NY.
There's also an audio clip on the movies official site of Bernadette talking about Kirk Douglas and how exciting it used to be seeing him on the Oscars.
For anyone that lives in the Los Angeles area the movie will still be playing at The Bridge: cinema de lux( the Director's Hall) for a few more days ( the theater in which the movie's eligibility for the Oscars was earned). They're only required to show it for seven consecutive days and I'm pretty sure it opened there on or around Dec. 27th, so you don't have that many days left to go see it.

| posted: 12/30/2002 at 10:29:56 PM ET That is so exciting! I would love to see Bernadette do something at the Oscar's like she did years ago (when she did that opening dance/song sequence about that year's nominee's). Does anyone remember what year that was?

I just wasn't sure of the year.
I wonder who would be nominated for an Oscar if the movie gets recognized by the Academy?

Registered: 3/10/2001 | posted: 12/31/2002 at 1:07:12 AM ET Well, I definitely think that Kirk has an excellent chance of being nominated( and even winning)regardless of whether or not the movie is nominated...just because he is a legend!! He also has some very emotional scenes in the movie and his character has a lot of dimension to him. Plus- this is his first film since his stroke 6 years ago! This is a *huge* accomplishment for him! I think that if Kirk is nominated chances are Michael will probably be too...although putting them both in the "Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role" category might be a bit akward. I would LOVE to see Bernadette get nominated but her role really isn't THAT big in the movie. However, I know that she could work magic with just a one line speaking role so who knows LOL
Like Bernadette, Diana doesn't have a huge part in the movie ( I mean she's a big factor in it but she doesnt have as much screen time as Kirk and Michael) Her scenes are very heartfelt though.
As far as Cameron goes...well, I don't know. This is his first film. From what I've heard he was great. He actually had to do a screen test and spend hours working with with an acting coach ( the director's "orders").
Rory, I think will be great in this movie. His character seems to be very intense and thoughful. Very mature for his age!!
The main thing is getting voters to see the movie!! If the Oscars are anything like the Tonys in that voters are not required to see all eligible/nominated shows...then its going to be a lot harder to be voted for( obviously). For example, I was told that the year Jane Eyre was nominated for a TONY they had a bunch of Tony voter seats ready and waiting to be filled but hardly any of the voters went to see the show. Which to me didn't seem very fair. My friends teacher who is a Tony voter went with us to see the show once and she loved it. I'm sure many other voters would have too if they had taken the opportunity to see the show!Anyways...They did show a sneak preview of IT RUNS IN THE FAMILY a while back in Boston that I heard went very well and that the audience was very receptive to so that's a good sign. Word of mouth makes such a BIG difference! A friend told me that he was at the movies the other day and saw a trailer for IT RUNS IN THE FAMILY too I thought it was a little early for that but I guess they're only showing it in select places.
Ok, that's my two cents...lol

| posted: 12/31/2002 at 1:20:15 AM ET Ya never know...she could pull off a best supporting actress nomination. It would be so strange to see her nominated...I'm use to it for the Tony's, but not something like that. Plus she hasn't exactly done Oscar worthy material before....well, "The Last Best Year" was a moving performance, but it went staright to TV which disqualifies it from The Academy Awards.
Kirk has it in the bag b/c he's so old; the nomination, not the win. & like Cindy said, it's his first film since his stroke.
It's like when Elizabeth Taylor won for Butterfield 8...she had just been pronounced dead and then came back to life! Same thing. LOL
Wouldn't that be great if Bernadette was nominated & won!
1 Tony for Gypsy & 1 Oscar for It Runs in the Family!
*AHHHH, dreaming* LOL
Rory is actually a really good little actor. LOL I use to love him in "The Father of the Bride" films.
OMG, I just realized....he played Steve Martin's son & now he's playing Bernadette's son. HAHAHA freaky.
"Word of mouth makes such a BIG difference!"
Yeah, just look at "My Big, Fat, Greek Wedding."
LOL Cindy, that was a lot more than 2 cents. That was more like a quarter. HAHAHA
