"There was a reading recently with Bernadette Peters (Vera), Christian Hoff (joey) and Cyndi Lauper (Gladys). Melba was one of the three girls from Company revival- (actress playing Kathy, April or Marta) not sure which one though"
Does anyone have the nerve to ask her about this? (I wouldn't have!).

Registered: 5/3/2002 | posted: 2/10/2007 at 10:03:28 AM ET The role and the songs are kind of a perfect fit for her. And we know she loves Richard Rodgers's music second only to one. Originally weren't they talking about Hugh Jackman as joey? But I suppose that's too much to ask for. If they could work that combination somehow, the two of them together would be so magical.

From: northern VA | posted: 2/11/2007 at 10:09:19 AM ET AccuRadio has launched a Love Songs station in honor of Valentine's Day. With (most) every AccuRadio station comes a substation that plays an even more specific genre.
One of the genres for the Love Songs station is Broadway Love Songs. When I clicked on the Broadway Love Songs station, the first song that played was Bernadette's "I Got Lost in His Arms."
The next song played was "Bewitched, Bothered, and Bewildered."
I'm taking that as a sign, y'all.

"Zip" would be an interesting Bernadette experience don't you think?

I've just been reading the liner notes of a pal joey London Cast CD that I have (Shakespearean actress, Sian Phillips as Vera)and it states Vera has "all the best songs" in the show.

(Apparently, Netflix doesn't have it. Grrr.)

Registered: 5/3/2002 | posted: 2/11/2007 at 6:28:27 PM ET I haven't seen it in years, but the Sinatra movie version is both inauthentic and bad. The plot and ending are completely changed around, joey is a singer instead of a dancer, and the soundtrack is filled with interpolations from other Rodgers & Hart shows. "The Lady is a Tramp," "My Funny Valentine" and "There's a Small Hotel" are great songs but they do not belong in pal joey. The movie is very 1950s Rat Pack in atmosphere and the show is so much of an earlier era (late 30s). It's probably worth watching if you're interested in Sinatra's career or the history of movie musicals, but it will not give anyone a clear idea of the show.

From: northern VA | posted: 2/11/2007 at 6:43:33 PM ET Good to know. It sounds like it was basically turned into a vehicle for Sinatra...? Thanks for that great response, Karen. The sites I found didn't go into that detail. They just discussed the plot, which didn't help me.
