Out of respect for Adolph Green and his family I won't say the date( even though its been printed in all the major NY newspapers) It'd be ashame to have all these crazy fans show up just to see Bernadette...or Joel or Tom...when its a memorial to honor and remember Mr. Green. He was an amazingly talented man!

And to the person who rudely posted above...the info was not on her site when I first posted about this.

From Internet Network: 12.88.106.x | posted: 12/1/2002 at 10:37:35 PM ET I think the point that was being made was that the memorial service is open to the public. A limited number of seats are available for fans. Phyllis Newman is actually billing this as a party for Adolph not a memorial service so I'm sure she would be happy there will be people camping out the night before to get into the service. It will show how much her husband was loved by the Broadway fans. So the time and place are no big secret. It's on Tuesday, December 3rd. The "party" starts at noon at the Shubert Theatre.

| posted: 12/2/2002 at 1:41:49 PM ET Betty Comden and Adolph Green were one of the most prolific musical writers of all time. They wrote On The Town, Bells Are Ringing, the movie Singin in the Rain and many more. Bernadette starred in the 1971 revival of On The Town which also starred Donna McKenkie and Phyllis Newman (Mrs. Adolph Green). He died about a month ago at the age of 87. He reportedly went to the opening night of Movin Out, just a few days before his death. Living happily until the very end.
I worked the Nothing Like A Dame benefit last March that Phyllis Newman started and continues to run. She was really sweet and I have to admit I found it quite cool sitting with her on the steps of the theater lobby (her hair in curlers with a scarf over them) eating our lunch chit chatting about how she found some of the performers. She was extremely sweet and so was her husband though I only observed him for a bit.

| posted: 12/3/2002 at 12:57:33 PM ET There is a huge difference between fans showing up out of respect for him, and fans showing up to get an autograph, picture, or just a glimpse of one of their favorite stars. I guarantee that half of those people are not even sure who he was! I just think it's so disrespectful, whether or not it has been advertised!
I mean there is really no need for people to "camp out" for a good spot at a memorial service.
*Not trying to sound nasty,I just get so mad at things like that*

By the way, I thought of another very tangential BP connection to Green. His long time writing and performing partner Betty Comden did a scene with Bernadette in Slaves of New York. In the early party scene she played the mother of the party's hostess-the woman who kept going on about her tour of China.

From: London | posted: 12/3/2002 at 1:38:49 PM ET Yes, thanks mojul for the link. I don't know his musicals that well, but they certainly are classics. I can't believe I hadn't heard of him before - I shall look him up in my book of musicals and their stars.
On quite a different subject, isn't Betty Comden's husband just a manaquin in SONY. Also, isn't Elanor just so sweet - that must have been the sweetest movie role of all time
