I have been volunteering down at my local theatre and this guy who works there was being a ridiculous show-off about all the work he's done in the business. He didn't seem to be making much sense though - doesn't like sondheim, thought Wicked was Schwartz' weakest piece -WHAT?!! Anyway, I asked him what he thought of Bernadette Peters and he said he worked with her in a one night performance in the West End "Voice of America". Now it sounds a bit like a load of crap because this was supposedly over a year ago but Bernadette hasn't worked in London since her Hey Mr Producer - right? Apparently Amy Nuttall co-starred with her - a woman who a recently turned from soap acting into opera and isn't regarded as anything special over here so WHAT?!!! please tell me he's wrong!

Sounds like he's either joking with you or trying to pretend he's something he's not. In either case, I usually am polite with people like this, but also tend to ignore them and stay away from them. You may not be able to, however, in your situation.
In any event, Bernadette did not perform in GB in a Voice of America program. Not last year. Not ever.
