On my way into the Loews Lincoln Square theater late Saturday afternoon, my friends and I spotted Bernadette Peters (Heartbeeps). We only caught a brief glimpse of her, but quickly surmised that she had just seen a matinee of “Just Friends” and was sobbing uncontrollably.

Well that's not a very happy report. "sobbing uncontrollably"

And I really can't see Bernadette going to a movie like Just Friends or sobbing uncontrollably over it.

i don't think the sobbing had to do with the movie.

Hmm--does this "Gawker" have ANY credibility at all??

And GraceAnne, you might want to put the "item" in quotes, just to make it clear that it isn't you who are reporting this "news".

I'm a little confused. Who saw Bernadette...GraceAnne or someone else?

And are you sure she was crying over Just Friends? Would she even pay money to see that?

gawker.com is a very well known media blog. it does have credibility. there is a feature on it where people report celebrities they see around NYC. i really don't see a reason why anyone would make up an item about bernadette. she is never mentioned on the site, i really don't think someone would be motivated to fabricate an item like this.

you all can take it for what you will. i think it is true.

I mostly find it hard to believe that she would have gone to see that particular movie.

oh ok. that makes a lot more sense. I agree with leebee about this particular movie. Perhaps the "gawker" just got the movie wrong.

i don'k know how many of you saw Prime, but that particular movie i think Bernadette would see AND cry to, because the central characters were a younger man and an older woman dating.

Gawker, Defamer, and all those gossip sites of that ilk, try to be entertaining by making sarcastic comments, i.e. identifying Bernadette by mentioning Heartbeeps. I wonder if they're just trying to make some oblique joke about the awfulness of Just Friends--kind of like, hey, it's so bad the audience flees in tears.

It's possible she was spotted in a movie theater looking slightly teary, but I hope she wasn't really sobbing uncontrollably in public. That would certainly be disturbing. And I agree about the unlikelihood of a Just Friends viewing.

Hope she's okay.

haha That was random. At first I thought spomeone had seen her yesterday (11/30) at that theater, and it would have been funny because I was there yesterday picking up Harry Potter IMAX tickets.

I haven't seen "Just Friends", but it is possible that there could have been moments in it that could trigger her to cry. My Mother's friend lost her husband a little over a year ago, and the smallest things sometimes trigger a memory of him.

Still, even if Bernadette was going for a light-hearted movie, why on earth would she choose that one? lol
