Yes I keep a journal. I'm going to type up all the stories one day.

I’d never been to the taping of a TV show before so I have nothing to compare this to but here goes my attempt to give you guys a sense of what happened. I got there around 4:00pm and the bus to take the first group of people onto the 20th Century studio lot came at about 4:40.Most of the people in line around me didn't seem to know anything about who or what they were seeing. They were in town, wanted to see a taping of something and this is what fit their schedule. Just outside the lot, everyone went through security and was given a red paper band to wear around their wrist. We marched up some stairs, down some stairs through an alley and into the studio where the ushers seated the audience like restaurant patrons. Most of the seats in the center sections and the front seats on the sides seemed to be reserved for invited guest whom the MC (warm-up guy) kept imploring to be more demonstrative. The ushers handed out playbills that contained a cast list, photos and bios of the stars and main creative people. The photo of Bernadette was the old head shot she used for years where her hair is more blonde and up and the bio seemed to end sometime before AGYG!

There were four sets from left to right -- Lloyd’s kitchen leading into his living room and then Judy’s living room leading into a set of her kitchen. From my seat, I could really only actually see the action that took place in Lloyd’s living room. Everything else, I had to view on the overhead monitors.

The taping started at about 6:15. The cast was introduced. There were only six of them besides the mothers, the brothers and the half sister, there was a date of Tucker’s. Lloyd’s assistant listed in the casting was not to be seen. Christine and Bernadette were introduced last and came out together. I think they were holding hands.

The first scene? segment? (I have no idea what these are called) takes place in Lloyd’s living room. He’s getting ready for his book signing and Tucker, who I guess lives with him, comes in wanting Lloyd to run lines with him. As the brothers are talking, Momma Leaf lets herself in with a key. Lines go something like this

Mrs. Leaf: Hello boys
Lloyd: Mom, where did you get the key to my house?
ML: It’s the spare key under your fake rock
L: I don’t have a fake rock
ML: It’s the spare key I had made.
Then ML says something about it being customary for real estate agents to keep the keys to the homes they sell and Lloyd says something about adding that to her advertising, we don’t just find you a home we move in with you. Bernadette then gives an exaggerated fake laugh telling Lloyd that he’s too funny or something.

Bernadette looks wonderful. Her hair is down like she wears it and looks great. She is dressed in a salmon?? colored business skirt and jacket that’s very flattering. The rest of the scene has Mrs. Leaf acknowledging that she hasn’t always been a good parent but that on her behalf, when Lloyd got lost on a snow trip, she was the one who the very next day asked, “Where is Lloyd?” She then gives Lloyd the letter sent to him by his birth mother, which she has opened but tries to blame on the postman.

They shoot this scene about three times. In between takes, the director and assistant director huddle with the actors and there’s always someone touching up Bernadette’s hair and makeup. At one point early on when Bernadette is saying a line, the director yells cut and Bernadette says something like, “so this is how it goes, we start and stop.”

The second scene, which they start shooting around 7:10, is a continuation of the first. Lloyd finds out that Tucker learned he was adopted on his 13th birthday. Sarah said she was afraid that Lloyd would figure it out on his own because in all of his stages he never looked like any of them and in all of those stages he was a “fatty fat.” Lloyd leaves to clear his head but as he does, Tucker springs onto one of the couches asking him if he wants to run more lines with him. The first time Adam Walker jumped on the couch, the couch stayed put. Next two times the thing tips over. Bernadette and he seemed sort of surprised the first time, but I’m not sure which way things were supposed to happen.

The third scene takes place the following evening and is also set in Lloyd’s living room with a little bit in his kitchen. Lloyd is going out to meet Judy Rabinowitz but first Sarah comes back wanting Lloyd to forgive her for failing to tell him that he was adopted. He tells her he’s having dinner with Judy and she unconvincingly tells him that she is ok with that but then looses it begging him not to leave her and that he’s her favorite. That scene ends with Sarah waving forlornly at Lloyd through his front door window and then collapsing to the floor.

At 8:00 we are in Judy Rabinowitz’s living room where Christine Baranski makes her appearance.

To be continued. I’m going to be away for most of Saturday, but will try to post more later.

Any one is lucky to see a taping of a show. liveing Pennsylvinia you dont get that opptunity.
However I got to make two camercials for two of the many things I have done for Theatre Harrisburg. The first was for Pirates of Penzance and the second was for the Harrisburg Idol. However, I did not passed the first round not that good at acpella singing yet. But I'll get it
One thing I learned from that is I do not want to try out for American Idol

I do hope the Bernadette's show gets pick for the new line up. I want to see it.

Sorry for the delay in posting. Next time I head out your way Jean, I will let you know.

I forgot to describe Bernadette’s second outfit. When she comes back to visit Lloyd before he goes to Judy’s for dinner, she is dressed in a kinda of burgundy/fuchsia-colored, (although it looks more burnt red on the monitors) cleavage revealing pullover and a white skirt with flowers matching the color of her top. Both of Bernadette’s outfits were nice and flattering – showed off her shapely figure, gave her a nice line and didn’t make her look short, at least not until she stood next to Baranski. Actually Bernadette never really looks short to me when I see her onstage, she just makes others look tall.

Before the action starts in Judy’s living room, we watch a scene on the monitors that was taped earlier at Judy’s front door between Judy and Lloyd. Scene goes something like this.

Judy: Hello, I’m Judy Rabinowitz, you must be Lloyd [pause] and who are those two people behind you? [shot of Sarah and Tucker peeking out from behind Judy’s bushes].

Back to live action in Judy’s living room. Lloyd and Tucker are sitting. Tucker says he can’t believe what Lloyd wore to meet his mother [Lloyd is wearing a sport coat and tie] and that his mom probably thought she gave birth to a geek. Lloyd says that Judy doesn’t care about that and Tucker says well something made her give you up. Lloyd then tells his mother to stop snooping. Sarah comes down the stairs (oversized wine goblet in hand) and goes over to the table where she comments on the fact that none of Judy’s china matches but since she’s indecisive about children what can you expect. Lloyd makes a remark about Sarah locking her china in the closet.

I think the scene then went like this: Sarah tells Lloyd that she knows he’s upset about them following him but that she had never seen his brother so distraught. She sits on the couch next to Tucker and tells Lloyd how Tucker felt abandoned (or something like that)

Sarah: [looking at Tucker, putting her hand on his knee] Isn’t that right, Tucker?
Tucker: [blankly] No
Sarah: Then Tucker said do you think we could tail him. Isn’t that right Tucker? [again looking at Tucker, patting his knee]
Tucker: [blankly] No
Sarah: So you see, I did it for Tucker.

Lloyd then tells her that she’s lucky that Judy was nice enough to invite them in before he could close the door on them so they better behave.

Judy then brings in a platter followed by Sarah mockingly saluting the cheese and crackers. I know there are some more lines in here and at one point when Judy is addressing Sarah, Baranski bends down to be at eye level with Peters which gets a laugh from the audience. There’s some discussion about what Lloyd should call Judy and then a door slams off camera. Rachel is home. Judy calls out to Rachel who yells that she’s just picking something up. Judy, trying to be friendly, tells her that she wants her to come and meet their guests. Rachel, still off camera, angrily yells that she told her mother she didn’t want to. Judy, starting to loose it, yells back that she told her that she wanted her to be a part of this and that she doesn’t want to meet Rachel’s anger. Rachel comes in, shakes Lloyd hand proclaiming herself the one that She kept. Tucker comments that Rachel got all of the good genes.

I think at this point Sarah announces that she’s met enough illegitimate children for one day and it’s time for them to go. Lloyd then says that there aren’t any more, are there and then Rachel tells her mother to reveal her surprise. Judy says she wanted to wait til after dinner but then says that she dabbles in painting and that she had painted a picture of what she envisioned her son would look like. She then unveils a painting of a guy resembling a model in a Nordstrom ad or something. [This gets a big laugh from the audience since Tucker looks somewhat more like a slimmer, low key, Jack Black type] Lloyd asks Judy if she paints for a living and she tells him that she is a child therapist. Lloyd asks if she works with troubled children and Sarah sarcastically says, “No Lloyd, the happy ones.”

Sarah then jumps up and says something about cutting the small talk and demanding to know why she gave Lloyd up. Judy says that she had a one night stand and wasn’t ready to be a mother. Rachel then chimes in that 3 years later, Judy had another one night stand and still wasn’t ready to be a mother but that Jewish guilt wouldn’t allow her to give up two children. Rachel and Judy start a tense exchange until Judy says they have to do listener-speaker or something. They then go into therapy mode as the list what they are feeling. Judy says that she is feeling hurt, unloved, etc, etc.. Rachel responds that she heard her mother say that she was feeling hurt, unloved, etc. etc. Then Rachel gets to say what she is feeling and Judy repeats it back to her and they hug. Sarah then says that she would like the floor and that she’s feeling bored, a little drunk and that someone is hogging all the wine. She then tells Judy to remind her to get the name of the wine before she throws away the box. Judy says that she understands Sarah’s hostility at which point Sarah tells her that she’s not going to be judged by Judy and that she’s not on trial and would like to storm out so what is through that door. When told the kitchen, she says fine and storms off. The first time the scene is done, Baranski follows Peters into the kitchen and Lloyd says something about not leaving the two of them alone in a small confined space. The next time they do the scene, Wheatley follows Peters and then Baranski goes after them saying that she thinks they need a professional.

More to follow.

PTM: again, thanks! I'm reading your description very slowly and trying to visualize what's happening; I actually am finding this pretty funny.

Goodness! Thanks for the quite descriptive synopsis PTM! Was it funny? It's hard to tell...

The info on the show is not on ABC's website but I sent them an email - maybe they will respond. My friend LaCage heard it is being aired in September and I saw that on TVTome as well.

I think that dress in those pictures is similar to the one she wore on Sunday - maybe the current dress is cut up from below a little higher and maybe a little lighter in color - but very similar

If you guys can think of a better way for me to format or present this so that it is easier to follow, let me know. Suggestions are welcome.

I also skipped over stuff in the beginning between the brothers and the scene between Tucker and his date because I was in a hurry. Like I am right now. Gotta run

From today's backstage.com:

"Complete network lineups for the following season, including renewals and new series, will be unveiled in May in New York."

Why doesn't someone just ask Bernadette--ever so politely and nicely--if she could tell us what's going on. And let us know the look on her face when you ask her.

On second thought, this is a really bad idea.
