When in NYC I took in Bernadette's appearance (via the Museaum of TV & Radio)as a five year old on "Name That Tune." No question about it that she is as adorable, entertaining and cute as others have said. She and her partner, Gus (who wanted to be a cop -- the chief cop, so he could tell everyone what to do!),racked up $800!

I didn't know they had that clip at the Museum of TV & Radio! I've been meaning to go to that museum too... definitely going to have to check it out now. She must be so adorable in it!

She is absolutely adorable and has a little bit of a mouth on her - but in an adorable way! "That's what I just told you!".
She's just quite sure of herself for a 5 year old. I've seen that clip several times and always love it. And to watch her run in her little dress, just adorable!

I'm assuming you are referring to what my post was talking about.
During the interview at the beginning, the host asks her what she is going to do if she wins money. She launches into this long explanation which kind of gets a bit confusing. Ask any 5 year old to explain something of some significance and it will come out a little jumbled up. Anyway, the host thinks that after her rambling, she hasn't really answered the question so he asks her again. Her response, "That's What I Just Told You!". And she says it with a tad bit of annoyance in her voice as if the host has not been listening to her at all.
I also remember being struck of how aware she was of the cameras. I'm sure because she had a fair amount of TV experience at that point, that whenever she answered a question, she looked straight into the camera and smiled.
Of course the best part of the interview is when the host asks her what she wants to be when she grows up. Her response, "A Baton Twirler". Clearly show business was in her mind but not acting and singing. The host asks her how many time she can twirl her baton and she says "once". When he asks her how many times she wants to be able to twirl it, she says "One thousand, hundred times" not realizing its not really a number.
Like I said, absolutely adorable.

Well I remember the one she lost on was Pistol Packin' Mama which I thought was ironic because she was in AGYG at the time I was viewing it. She kept wanting to say it was something about "horsies". There was also "Little Girls" and the theme song from "It's Howdy Doody Time" which is how the boy identified it but she knew its real name was "Ta Da Da Boom De Ya".

One of the first songs was "Dragnet" which she got. The little boy answered first & was 'in a right church but wrong pew situation' but Bernadette knew the actual title. They split the $ for that question. She was definitely stuck on "horses" that day -- she incorrectly identified the last song in the prelim round as "Horses." In the bonus round (not sure what it was actually called)they both missed the song for $1600, which was "Pistol Packing Mama" -- i forget what he said it was but Bernadette again said "Horses."
The bonus round was cute in that they both held onto the same buzzer with both hands and when the songs were played they both jumped/leaned forward & yelled the title.
The museum's data base said the program was from mid-March 1954, so she had just turned six but, like most little kids (how I know this when I don't have any kids is beyond me), she hadn't yet made the transition to her 'new' age. It was also very funny to see the commercials that they did live in the studio.

Ah I got some of the songs mixed up. Thanks for the clarification, PA Fan. It's been a while since I've seen it.
I actually don't think the show was aired live and I think I remember reading some place that it was taped in January of 1954 so she was still 5.

Especially when the five year old is trying to tell a joke. Or yet,is making one up on the spot. And then laughs hysterically.

Very typical-they get the idea that hundreds and thousands are big deals,but don't know the placement.

There are tons of things to watch at the Musuem with Bernadette. The only other show from her childhood is a Hallmark Christmas Special from 1958 called The Christmas Tree starring Jessica Tandy but it includes a 10 year old Bernadette with blonde braids.
Then there is the 1970s version of Once Upon a Mattress with Bernadette as Lady Larkin. But the best is probably the various Tonight Show appearances she did through the 80s and 90s before Johnny Carson left. You can only watch 4 shows per visit so after you Watch Name That Tune, I would suggest you concentrate on the Tonight Show appearances. Though I also recommend the 1983 Oscars where she did an amazing song and dance number with Peter Allen. It's definitely worth several visits to see them all.

Oh wow, thanks so much moljul. I'll definitely check it out next time i'm in the city! Do you know if they have anything from SNL?...perhaps the infamous Making Love Alone performance?
